The Team & Focus of the Role

Due to an upcoming retirement, we have a rare opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to join our Finance team, based from either our Ashby de la Zouch or Birmingham office.

This is more than a traditional Financial Controller role. While strong technical finance experience is important, the real focus of this opportunity is leadership, influence and continuous improvement. You’ll be leading a capable finance team, supporting and developing colleagues, and building strong relationships across the wider business — including at Partnership level.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring we continue to deliver accurate, insightful financial reporting, robust cash flow forecasting and effective working capital management. Alongside this, we’re looking for someone who can bring fresh thinking to how we work — identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance reporting, strengthen compliance and support the continued evolution of the finance function.

This is an exciting time to join the team. Finance is going through a period of positive transformation, including the implementation of a new ERP system, the introduction of a business partnering model and a wider focus on raising performance levels across the business. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape that journey, working with a team of 7 direct reports and 13 colleagues overall, while making a visible impact across the organisation.

This is a full-time role, and we can offer flexibility around whether you are primarily based from Ashby de la Zouch or Birmingham, with regular time spent in both offices — ideally at least twice a week in Ashby.

Duties will include:

Team Leadership

Lead, motivate, and develop the finance team, including payroll and credit control

Support talent development and succession planning within the finance function

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management

Maintain robust financial controls and accounting standards

Governance, Risk & Compliance

Manage external audits and relationships with auditors, banks, insurers, and other professional advisers

Prepare the annual tax computation for the Partnership

Systems & Process Improvement

Drive finance transformation initiatives and process optimisation

Identify opportunities for automation and increased efficiency

Stakeholder Management

Build strong relationships with senior leaders and operational teams

Collaborate cross-functionally to support business objectives

The successful candidate will have...

Essential Experience

* Proven experience leading a finance function.

* Strong financial reporting and technical expertise

* Experience managing cash flows

* Experience improving financial processes and controls

* Track record of leading and developing high-performing teams

Skills & Competencies

* Excellent leadership and people management skills

* Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

* Highly effective communication and presentation skills

* Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment

* Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

* Advanced Excel and financial systems knowledge

Desirable

* Experience of ERP system implementation or finance transformation.

* Knowledge of mergers, acquisitions, or business integration activities.
