Salary: £27,827 - £30,833 per annum pro rata of £31,236 - £34,610 per annum - SS4
Job type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, over 40 weeks per year (Term Time)

The Role:
University College Birmingham is looking for a compassionate, proactive and resilient Pastoral Support Officer to join our Safeguarding Team.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to FE College & Sixth Form students and apprentices experiencing challenges that may impact their wellbeing, engagement and academic success.
Working closely with our DSL & DDSLs, you will provide early intervention and targeted pastoral support to students experiencing low-level safeguarding or welfare concerns, helping to prevent issues from escalating. You will manage a caseload, deliver focused 1:1 interventions, develop action plans and work with students to overcome barriers to education and re-engage with their studies.
You will also provide dedicated support to vulnerable groups, including Looked After Children, care-experienced students, young carers and young parents, working closely with families, social workers, education professionals and other agencies where appropriate.
Working collaboratively across the institution, you will help deliver workshops, tutorial sessions, enrichment activities and pop-up events promoting wellbeing, safety, positive behaviour, life skills and informed decision-making.
The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, approachable and resilient professional with strong safeguarding awareness and experience supporting young people, particularly those who are vulnerable or facing barriers to education. They will be confident building trusting relationships, delivering targeted 1:1 pastoral interventions, managing a caseload and developing effective action plans. They will have excellent communication, organisation and multi-agency working skills, understand professional boundaries and confidentiality, and be able to recognise and appropriately escalate safeguarding concerns. They will also be proactive, solution-focused and committed to helping students improve their wellbeing, engagement and educational outcomes.
