How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Are you a qualified Speech and Language Therapist who wants to use your clinical expertise to make a real difference for young people with autism, learning disabilities and other additional needs? Do you want to work within a genuinely multidisciplinary inclusion team in a college environment where your professional input is valued at every level? If so, we would love to hear from you.

As our Speech and Language Therapist, you will work within the Inclusion team across all College sites, delivering a broad and meaningful service that spans universal, targeted and personalised levels of support. You will hold your own caseload, design and implement individual and group therapy programmes, contribute to the College's universal SaLT offer, support EHCP implementation and set SMART targets that drive measurable progress for students across their study programmes.

This is a 30-hour, 40-week post, aligned broadly to the academic year and offering a strong work-life balance alongside a genuinely impactful and varied clinical role. As well as direct student work, you will provide advice and training to staff, parents and external professionals, contribute to service design and work collaboratively across disciplines to ensure every learner receives the right support.

About Barnet and Southgate College
We change lives, empower individuals and connect communities.

We are an ambitious, forward-thinking further education college in North London, proud to serve diverse communities across Barnet, Southgate and beyond. Our 2030 Vision is bold: to be a leading provider of learning and skills development, fostering exceptional educational experiences, driven by innovation, collaboration and excellence.

Our Inclusion team sits within Student Services and brings together a range of specialist practitioners working side by side to support learners with complex and additional needs. You will be joining colleagues who are driven by outcomes, committed to each other and motivated by the visible difference they make for young people who face real barriers to learning. This is not a token clinical role — your expertise will shape provision, inform practice and genuinely change outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

* Individual and group therapy: Design, assess and implement individual and group speech and language therapy programmes tailored to each student's specific needs, using a wide range of interventions for young people with autism, learning disabilities and other SEND.

* Universal and targeted support: Provide advice and guidance across all three levels of support (universal, targeted and personalised), reviewing and refining the College's universal SaLT offer to ensure consistency and quality across all sites.

* EHCP and target setting: Ensure the successful implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans, setting SMART targets with each student, monitoring progress and reviewing outcomes across all elements of the study programme.

* Caseload management: Manage your own caseload of students effectively, maintaining accurate and timely records in line with College policies, safeguarding requirements and data protection.

* Collaborative working: Work closely with teaching staff, curriculum teams, parents and external agencies to address communication, social, emotional and learning-related challenges and implement learning plans that support retention and achievement.

* Training and development: Provide training and professional development for staff, parents and external professionals on speech and language therapy strategies, and contribute to broader service design and improvement.

* Data and quality: Collect and report data to support qualitative and quantitative analysis of service quality, and actively engage in CPD to keep your own knowledge, skills and practice current.

What You'll Bring

Essential

* A relevant degree or diploma in Speech and Language Therapy

* GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)

* Proven successful experience of supporting students in a speech and language therapy role

* Proven experience of assessing and identifying students' needs within the role's remit

* Proven experience in speech and language therapy, particularly for young people with autism and/or additional conditions

* Strong experience in clinical reasoning and setting achievable, measurable goals

* Experience of managing a caseload of students

* Experience of tracking young people and supporting them to achieve positive outcomes

* Good knowledge of safeguarding processes and concerns relating to young people

* Good knowledge of the issues and barriers that young people face

* IT literate with sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and role-specific software

* Effective written and verbal communication skills at all levels

* Ability to demonstrate compassion, resilience and a person-centred approach

* Willingness to travel and work across all main College campuses
High level of confidentiality and integrity

* Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding

Even Better If You Have...

* Knowledge of the latest research evidence and a commitment to applying it to improve student outcomes

* Experience working in an FE, school or educational setting

* Experience contributing to service design or quality improvement

Potential Interview Dates
Week commencing 22nd June 2026.
