Project Director / Construction Manager
Purpose of the Role
The Logistics Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all site logistics operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and coordinated movement of people, materials, plant, and equipment throughout the project lifecycle. Working within a Tier 1 contractor environment, the role is critical to maintaining programme, productivity, health and safety standards, and stakeholder satisfaction on complex construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
Site Logistics Planning
* Develop, implement, and maintain the project Logistics Management Plan.
* Design and manage site access, traffic management, delivery routes, storage areas, welfare facilities, and temporary works associated with logistics.
* Coordinate logistics requirements during each phase of the construction programme.
* Ensure site logistics evolve in line with changing project requirements.
Traffic & Access Management
* Oversee vehicle movements, pedestrian segregation, and traffic marshals.
* Manage gate operations and delivery schedules.
* Ensure emergency access routes remain unobstructed at all times.
* Coordinate road closures, permits, and local authority requirements where applicable.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
* Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance.
* Ensure logistics operations comply with company procedures, statutory legislation, and project-specific requirements.
* Undertake regular inspections and audits of logistics operations.
* Lead toolbox talks and logistics briefings.
* Investigate logistics-related incidents and implement corrective actions.
Stakeholder Management
* Build strong working relationships with project teams, subcontractors, clients, local authorities, neighbours, and supply chain partners.
* Attend project coordination meetings and contribute to construction planning.
* Communicate logistics constraints and opportunities to the wider delivery team.
Site Coordination
* Coordinate crane operations, hoists, loading bays, and lifting activities in conjunction with appointed persons and site management.
* Manage site security, access control systems, and visitor procedures.
* Oversee housekeeping standards and ensure clear access routes are maintained.
* Coordinate temporary services and welfare logistics where required.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Significant experience managing logistics on large-scale construction projects for a principal contractor.
* Strong understanding of construction sequencing and site operations.
* Excellent organisational and planning skills.
* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
* Thorough knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
* Strong communication and leadership skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital logistics management systems
