How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Senior Cost Engineer – Electrical
Location: London

Contract: Permanent

Salary + Car/Car Allowance + Flexible Benefits

Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an electrically biased Senior Cost Engineer to join our Work Winning team at NG Bailey in London.

Working closely with our Bid and Cost Management teams, you’ll play a key role in developing accurate and competitive estimates for MEP projects, from pre-tender through to post-tender stage.

You’ll work alongside the Bid Manager and Cost Manager to help shape the pricing strategy for opportunities, using your electrical expertise and commercial awareness to identify risks, challenge solutions and suggest cost-effective alternatives that could give NG Bailey a competitive advantage.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll also support and mentor junior Cost Engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping develop capability within the wider team.

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:

Preparing accurate and competitive estimates for MEP projects, with a particular focus on electrical services.

Producing detailed take-offs and measures from drawings and specifications to establish accurate project costs.

Pricing labour, materials, subcontractors and plant using current market information and appropriate productivity allowances.

Working with Bid Managers and Cost Managers to develop bid and pricing strategies and identify opportunities to strengthen our commercial position.

Using your technical knowledge to challenge solutions and identify alternative, cost-effective approaches.

Assessing and adjudicating supplier and subcontractor quotations alongside our technical experts.

Keeping up to date with market pricing, competition and workload to ensure estimates remain competitive and relevant.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders throughout the tender process to ensure submissions are accurate, compliant and delivered on time.

Supporting and mentoring junior members of the Cost Engineering team.

Providing an effective handover of tender information to the project delivery team following contract award.

What we’re looking for:
If you’re an experienced Electrical Cost Engineer or Estimator with a strong understanding of building services and enjoy being involved in the strategy behind winning work, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll be commercially aware, analytical and confident working with a range of stakeholders. You’ll be someone who can get into the detail of an estimate while also looking at the bigger picture – identifying risk, opportunity and ways we can provide a more competitive solution.

We're looking for:

Strong electrical estimating / cost engineering experience within MEP or building services.

The ability to interpret drawings and specifications and produce accurate take-offs and measures.

Experience pricing electrical labour, materials, subcontractors and plant.

A good understanding of the tender and work-winning process.

Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify risk, opportunity and alternative solutions.

The ability to assess and challenge supplier and subcontractor quotations.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

The ability to support, mentor and share knowledge with more junior members of the team.

Benefits:
We're always evolving our benefits to ensure we're attracting and retaining great people. Some of what you can expect includes:

Car/Car allowance

Salary sacrifice car scheme (Hybrid/Electric Vehicle)

25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays with an option to Buy/Sell additional days

Pension with a leading provider and up to 8% employer contribution

Personal Wellbeing and Volunteer Days

Private Medical Insurance

Life Assurance

Free 24/7 365 Employee Assistance Program to support mental health and well-being (including counselling sessions and legal advice)

Flexible benefits to choose from including Dental Insurance, Gym Membership, Give As You Earn, Travel Insurance and Tax Free Bikes

Next Steps:

As a business, we’re on a journey to build on our culture where everyone is included, treated fairly and with respect. This starts with recruitment and how we bring people into the organisation.

We’ll do our best to outline the recruitment process to you ahead of time with plenty of notice. If you require any accommodations to participate in the application or interview process, please let us know and we will work with you to ensure your needs are met.

About Us:

We are one of the leading independent engineering and services businesses in the UK. Founded in 1921, with a turnover of £500m and 3000 employees, we are proud of our history of developing great people through our investment in training.
