Prison Healthcare/ NHS Organisation
Duration: Initial 12 weeks (strong likelihood of extension)

Rate: NHS Band 7 – Agency Capped Rates
We are working in partnership with an NHS organisation to recruit an experienced Band 7 Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) to support healthcare delivery within a prison setting. This is an interim agency opportunity, initially for 12 weeks, with an expectation of extension subject to service need.
This is a hands-on clinical role within a fast-paced, complex environment, supporting individuals with substance and alcohol misuse needs and contributing to a recovery-focused, evidence-based healthcare service.
The Role
As the Interim Band 7 NMP, you will be responsible for delivering independent non-medical prescribing clinics within the prison, managing complex patients and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include:
* Delivering regular independent NMP clinics (minimum 6 sessions per week)
* Providing safe, evidence-based prescribing for alcohol and substance use disorders
* Independently assessing, diagnosing and formulating treatment and care plans
* Managing alcohol and drug detoxification, stabilisation and relapse prevention programmes
* Acting as a key prescriber for complex cases within the service
* Supporting and advising nursing, recovery and prescribing colleagues
* Working collaboratively with prison staff and external health partners (GPs, mental health services, pharmacies)
* Ensuring accurate, contemporaneous clinical documentation in line with NHS and information governance standards
* Promoting harm reduction, health screening and physical health monitoring including BBV screening and phlebotomy
Essential Requirements
Please note: applications will only be considered if all essential criteria are met.
* Qualified Independent Non-Medical Prescriber
* Registered professional (NMC / GPhC or relevant professional body)
* Substantial experience working as an NMP in a similar setting (e.g. prison healthcare, substance misuse, complex community services)
* Current prison clearance (mandatory)
* Strong knowledge of medicines used in substance and alcohol use disorders
* Experience managing complex patients and working autonomously at Band 7 level
* Ability to work confidently within a secure environment and multidisciplinary setting
Desirable
* Experience working within the criminal justice system
* Strong understanding of co-existing mental health and physical health needs
* Experience supporting or mentoring other clinicians/NMPs
