The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:
Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.
Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a major flood reservoir project in Bideford, North Devon. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a complex civil engineering scheme involving earthworks, drainage, and reinforced concrete works within a flood reservoir environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in both site delivery and project documentation, supporting the management team to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Drawing on responsibilities typically required for civil engineering projects, the role will involve setting out, quality assurance, record keeping, and supporting the engineering and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Setting out and surveying works across drainage, earthworks, and reinforced concrete packages.
Producing and maintaining accurate site records, daily diaries, quality documentation, and as-built information.
Assisting with inspection and test plans (ITPs), QA processes, and work package documentation.
Supporting the preparation and review of RAMS, technical queries, and engineering records.
Monitoring progress against programme requirements and reporting key engineering updates.
Carrying out quality checks, surveys, and inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications.
Assisting with material take-offs, procurement requirements, and site coordination activities.
Supporting the site team with health, safety, environmental, and quality management requirements.
Liaising with subcontractors, supervisors, and project management teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Providing practical engineering solutions to site challenges and contributing to the overall success of the scheme.
Requirements
Previous experience working as a Site Engineer on civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
Strong background in drainage, reinforced concrete (RC), and earthworks.
Experience within flood alleviation, reservoir, water, environmental, or heavy civil engineering projects is highly desirable.
Ability to undertake both setting out duties and project paperwork/documentation responsibilities.
Competent with surveying equipment including GPS and Total Stations.
Good understanding of QA processes, site records, and engineering documentation.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
CSCS Card essential.
Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering preferred.
