Microbiology Technologist
Contract Length: 12 months
Location: Barnard Castle
Pay Rate: £22.50 per hour
Shift Pattern: 24/7 rotating (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off – 7am–7pm / 7pm–7am)
Overview
We are seeking a Microbiology Technologist to join a Quality Control (QC) Microbiology team on a 12-month contract. This role will support the validation of a new sterile product and sits within a broader QC function covering both microbiology and analytical testing.
This is an excellent opportunity for either a recent graduate with relevant laboratory experience or an experienced technician looking to contribute to a high-performing QC environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological testing on finished sterile products, including:
- Sterility testing
- Endotoxin testing
- Work in accordance with SOPs and GMP standards
- Maintain and demonstrate strong aseptic technique
- Execute multi-day test methods with varying protocols
- Record and manage data using QC systems such as SAP, LIMS, or LES
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in Microbiology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow SOPs precisely
- Good communication skills
- Solid understanding of core microbiology principles
Desirable:
- Experience working in a GMP, pharmaceutical, or QC laboratory environment
- Exposure to sterility or endotoxin testing
- Practical experience with aseptic techniques
- Understanding of data integrity principles
- Familiarity with laboratory systems such as SAP, LIMS, or LES
