The day-to-day

Roles and responsibilities

1. Free-space laser communications systems engineering type trades and analysis.
2. System design and hardware development of ultra-high-rate satellite payloads, terrestrial links and feeder-link to satellite.
3. New lasercom concepts proposal preparation.
4. Involvement with both government and commercial projects.
5. Interaction with government and commercial customers.
6. Support transceiver assembly integration and test.
7. Support qualification tests component, assembly, and system level.

What you'll need

1. Essential Qualifications

• MS degree level or PhD
• Have at least 5-10 years working experience matching the expectations of the role

What will help you on the job

Highly Desired Qualifications

1. Experience with systems engineering of free-space laser communication systems.
2. Experience with the control of optical systems for precision beam-pointing.
3. Demonstrated experience with successful design and development of optical and laser-communication systems for terrestrial or satellite applications.
4. Experience with satellite optical payloads.
5. Experience with flight qualification of optical systems.
6. Experience with fiberoptic systems and components.
7. Development of innovative and creative solutions to complex and challenging tasks.
8. Fundamental understanding of optical and communication systems from specifications and first principles.

LOCATION:

1. Viasat Netherlands – Amsterdam, 100%
2. Availability to travel to the US and across Europe to follow up with the other team members, contractors and to attend conferences.
