Research scientist for design, methods and simulation concepts of MEMS sensors and actuators (f/m/div.)


Nano-and micro-electromechanical systems (NEMS & MEMS) are used in many everyday and emerging applications such as inertial sensors in cell phones, virtual reality devices and autonomous vehicles. The necessary increasing requirements for sensor performance, robustness, and cost are accompanied by challenging technical difficulties. To overcome them, we provide a deep understanding of complex interactions in different physical domains merged with computational and data-driven advances. Based on this, we continuously advance our benchmarking tool chain for MEMS simulation by introducing novel methods to improve the accuracy of the models and to accelerate the development process. We follow a holistic development approach for our sensor systems considering interactions on sensor, device and application level.

  • As a research scientist you will develop and deepen a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical concepts and tools exploited for MEMS design and system simulation; including e.g. finite element modelling, reduced order models, nonlinear dynamics, and hybrid modelling.
  • You will also develop new simulation methods, construct state of the art optimization workflows, and derive new sensor and actuator concepts.
  • Furthermore, you will work together with a team of MEMS sensor experts at corporate research and collaborate closely with the product development at the corresponding business units.
  • In addition, you will publish the results in patent applications and scout for new applications and use-cases for MEMS sensors and actuators.
  • Education: PhD in physics, engineering, mathematics or related fields with excellent marks
  • Personality: strong communication skills, ability to identify relevant problems, self-motivated, goal oriented and open-minded team player with strong interest in both applications and research
  • Experience and Knowledge: experience in solving problems using theoretical and/or numerical approaches,familiar with the basic concepts of a physical theory from the axiomatic framework over to the relevant physical approximations up to the numerical solution procedure, ability to work with and/or learn new software tools and develop the required skills on your own
  • Enthusiasm: like to make decisions
  • Languages: fluent in English (written and spoken), German beneficial
