How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

SP Electricity North West manages and invests in the power network that supplies electricity to the 2.4m homes and businesses across the North West. Our 2,400 colleagues manage the 13,000km of overhead lines, 44,000km of underground cables and thousands of electricity substations to keep power flowing and supporting green growth. We’re one of six distribution network operators in the UK and are regulated by Ofgem.

We’re proud that in December 2024 we were named Utility of the Year by Utility Week magazine who said we punched above our weight and used innovation to solve some of the industry’s most difficult challenges. Come and be part of our team and make a difference.

Now part of the Iberdrola and Scottish Power group, we’re collectively building smarter, greener electricity networks that will get Britain growing by investing in a better future, quicker.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Construction Team Leader to join our Business Connections team.

This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll oversee a team of Engineers and Coordinators, ensuring the successful delivery of customer connections projects while driving exceptional customer service, operational performance, and commercial outcomes. You'll play a key role in shaping the customer journey, supporting the delivery of regional work programmes, and creating an environment where colleagues can thrive and achieve their full potential.

If you're passionate about leading people, delivering high-quality construction projects, and making a positive impact on customer experience, we'd love to hear from you.

The successful candidate must, at the start of employment have permission to work in the UK without sponsorship.

As Construction Team Leader, you'll take ownership of the regional Business Connections construction work programme, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with customer expectations.

Working closely with Programme Managers and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, you'll monitor workload demands, identify and mitigate risks, and drive performance across the team. You'll be responsible for fostering a high-performing culture where continuous improvement, accountability, and customer focus are at the heart of everything we do.

A significant part of the role involves leading and developing your team through coaching, mentoring, performance management, and regular one-to-one meetings. Identify training and development opportunities to enhance team capability.

Produce management reports and performance information to support decision-making.

Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, industry regulations, and company standards.

Drive commercial performance and support effective budget management.

What we’re looking for

You must hold an HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering and have experience managing electrical distribution or construction projects. You'll be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while supporting and developing a high-performing team.

You'll bring a combination of technical expertise, leadership capability, and strong stakeholder management skills, together with the confidence to make decisions, influence others, and drive positive outcomes.

* HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

* Experience managing electrical distribution and construction projects.

* Experience of or ability to work as a mentor to more junior team members.

* Excellent planning, organisational, and project management skills.

* Ability to manage demanding customers and manage expectations.

* Knowledge of relevant technical and regulatory codes of practice.

* Strong understanding of health and safety compliance requirements.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with great attention to detail.

* Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to challenging deadlines.

* Proven ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.

* Knowledge of risk and issue management processes.

* Experience with document control systems and processes.

* Familiarity with CPM systems.

The chance to join a team that plays a critical role in delivering vital customer connections and infrastructure projects. You'll have the chance to lead a talented team, influence business performance, and further develop your leadership and technical expertise within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

We value your expertise, in return, you’ll receive:

* An annual bonus scheme

* 26 days annual leave + bank holidays

* An employee rewards portal offering discounts on several well-known brands

* A market-leading contributory pension scheme

* Employee assistance programme

* Opportunity for professional development through our L&D function
