How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

We’re Aioi R&D Lab - an AI tech hub in one of the fastest-growing insurance companies. We research and develop AI systems that catapult insurance from a slow-moving, traditional past into a data-driven, technology-lead and society-defining future.
We’re looking for dynamic, driven professionals like you to help evolve our business in new directions. You’ll need first-class credentials and a proactive attitude to help us drive the change the underpins our mission.
As a Senior Software Engineer 2 you will be a core contributor to delivering our products and solutions, with the opportunity to lead projects end-to-end. You'll set the bar for engineering excellence, mentor those around you, and step into line management as the team grows.
If you’d like to be part of our brighter future, and share in our success, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
* Key contributor to the development, testing and maintenance of Lab projects, products and initiatives.
* Deliver robust, maintainable and operationally viable software and infrastructure, typically using our core stack: React, Typescript, Material UI, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, AWS
* Work with internal colleagues (ML Engineers, ML Scientists, Product Managers etc) and external project partners to understand technical requirements, constraints and delivery priorities.
* Use code review, pair programming, mentoring and other methods to support other engineers and champion best practices.
* Troubleshoot technical, data and integration issues arising during development and deployment.
* Drive the development and improvement of internal tooling, engineering standards, reusable frameworks and deployment practices across the Lab.
* Communicate technical trade-offs, risks and progress clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Take on a Technical Lead role when necessary, leading a team of engineers to deliver excellent results within agreed timescales.
* Take on Line Manager duties when necessary, with regular syncs to provide advice, mentoring, pastoral care and continuous feedback, with an annual performance review cycle.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
* Extensive commercial software experience.
* Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering or another relevant STEM discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
* Familiarity with our core stack, with strong experience in at least 2 components: Python, Typescript, Relational databases, APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, AWS.
* Strong core software engineering and DevOps skills, including CI/CD, Version control, containerisation and cloud deployment.
* Knowledgeable on engineering best practices and comfortable with producing clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
* Comfortable with code review and giving clear, actionable, constructive feedback to others.
* Highly effective when working in a remote-first, iterative agile environment.
* Experience working across the lifecycle from experimentation and prototyping through to integration and operationalisation.
* Ability to work effectively in technically complex and ambiguous environments involving multiple stakeholders.
* Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues and trade-offs clearly to non-specialists.
Desirable
* Experience architecting and designing complex distributed software systems for cloud environments.
* Experience developing and deploying machine learning, AI or data-driven systems in production or near-production settings.
* Technical Lead and/or Line Manager experience.
