THE ROLE
We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join a fast-paced heavy engineering environment in Oldham.
You’ll play a key role in keeping critical machinery running efficiently by installing, maintaining, and repairing heavy mechanical equipment. Your work will directly support uptime, safety, and reliability across the site.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Build, install, align, and commission mechanical components to engineering standards
Carry out planned preventative maintenance to keep operations running smoothly
Diagnose mechanical faults and deliver fast, effective repairs
Strip down and rebuild pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, and hydraulic systems
Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
Use precision measuring equipment (micrometers, dial indicators, calipers)
Complete clear and accurate maintenance records and reports
Work closely with engineers, electricians, and maintenance teams
Respond to breakdowns, shutdowns, and urgent repair situations

Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately
Use correct lifting methods and equipment
Wear and maintain all required PPE
Follow all company Health & Safety procedures without exception
WHAT YOU BRING
Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment
Recognised trade qualification (Mechanical Fitting / Fitting & Turning or equivalent)
Strong understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics
Confident reading engineering drawings and technical documentation
Experience with heavy plant and rotating equipment
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
A proactive, hands-on approach with attention to detail
Able to work independently and as part of a team
