How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Do you have a background in architecture, 3D design or a related creative discipline and enjoy working in a practical, hands-on environment? Are you looking for a role where your technical expertise supports high-quality student outcomes and where your contribution is genuinely valued? If so, we would love to hear from you.

As our Art, Design and Architecture Technician, you will be a key member of a well-established and specialist Creative Industries team at our Wood Street Campus, providing technical support for Architecture and 3D Design provision. You will prepare and maintain workshops, studios and CAD facilities to a professional standard, guide students in the safe and effective use of tools, machinery and digital design equipment, and work closely with teaching staff to ensure lessons, assessments and projects run smoothly.

This is a part time (0.8 FTE, salary prorata) post offering a strong balance between independent technical responsibility and close collaboration with staff and students. You will contribute to enrichment activity, live projects and end-of-year exhibitions, playing a visible role in the presentation and impact of the programme. There are genuine opportunities to develop your technical expertise through working with a range of materials, machinery and digital fabrication tools alongside experienced teaching colleagues.

About Barnet and Southgate College

We change lives, empower individuals and connect communities.

We are an ambitious, forward-thinking further education college in North London, proud to serve diverse communities across Barnet, Southgate and beyond. Our 2030 Vision is bold: to be a leading provider of learning and skills development, fostering exceptional educational experiences, driven by innovation, collaboration and excellence.

Our Creative Industries department is collaborative, solutions-focused and student-centred, with a strong emphasis on safety, professionalism and high-quality outcomes. You will be joining a team that takes pride in the standard of its provision and in the progression of its learners, and where your technical knowledge and practical skills will be put to good use every day.

What You'll Be Doing

* Workshop and studio preparation: Prepare, maintain and operate workshops, studios and CAD facilities to a professional standard, ensuring all spaces, tools, materials and digital equipment are safe, well-resourced and ready for use.

* Technical support and guidance: Provide specialist technical guidance to students and staff in the safe and effective use of tools, machinery and digital fabrication equipment, supporting practical activity in 3D model making, prototyping and spatial design.

* CAD and digital tools: Support the use of CAD software and digital design workflows, including digital fabrication equipment such as laser cutters and 3D printers, ensuring facilities are set up to meet curriculum and industry expectations.

* Equipment maintenance: Maintain tools, machinery, materials and digital resources through routine checks, basic repairs, fault reporting and inventory control, keeping resources reliable and fit for purpose.

* Health and safety: Promote high standards of health and safety by supporting risk assessments, student inductions and consistent safe working practices across all studio and workshop areas.

* Enrichment and exhibitions: Support live projects, end-of-year shows, exhibitions and enrichment activities, contributing to the realisation and professional presentation of student architectural and 3D work.

* Collaborative working: Work closely with teaching staff to anticipate technical requirements, support lesson delivery and contribute to a positive, professional studio learning environment.

Potential Interview Dates

Week commencing 22nd June 2026.
