Position
We are recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join our specialist college in Harrogate, supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
This is a practical and rewarding role where you will support learners in the classroom and across college activities. You will help deliver education programmes, prepare learning materials and support both group and one to one learning. You will also provide personal care where required to ensure all learners can fully access their education.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in education, care, support work or SEND who is looking to develop a career in specialist education.
By helping learners build confidence, independence and life skills, you will play a key role in delivering Henshaws’ mission to support people to live fulfilling lives.
* Salary: £13.73 per hour or £23,795.19 per annum actual
* Hours per week: 37
* Working hours: Monday to Thursday 08:30 to 16:30 Friday 08:30 to 16:00
* Weeks per year: 40 term time
* Annual leave: 6.84 weeks including bank holidays pro rated
* Contract: Permanent

Requirements
We are looking for a caring, reliable and proactive Teaching Assistant who enjoys working as part of a team.
Essential:
* Good standard of literacy and numeracy
* Teaching Assistant qualification or willingness to work towards
* Experience in education, care or support work
* Strong communication skills with learners, families and professionals
* Ability to follow and support structured learning programmes
* Positive and patient approach to supporting people with additional needs
* Commitment to supporting independence and development
* Willingness to provide personal care
Desirable:
* Experience working with autism, learning disabilities or sensory impairments
* Understanding of SEND education or safeguarding
Additional requirements:
* Ability to meet the physical demands of the role including supporting wheelchair users after training
* Flexible and reliable approach to working hours
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare
* Enhanced DBS check including adult and child barred lists required
