Take ownership of the electrical systems that keep an aircraft’s avionics, medical equipment and cabin powered. Joining at the first phase of development, you’ll shape the architecture, establish the power budget and make decisions that influence the aircraft from early design through installed hardware.
This is a hands-on Principal role with broad technical scope. If you enjoy connecting system-level decisions with practical engineering, you’ll have the opportunity to bring generation, distribution, wiring and charging interfaces together into a coherent aircraft electrical system.
The opportunity
You’ll initially be the sole engineer covering the electrical domain outside propulsion, giving you substantial ownership and direct involvement in the aircraft’s development. You’ll report to the Head of Electrical for delivery, with technical direction and architecture approval from the Chief Engineer – Electrical.
Working closely with battery, avionics, structures, mission systems and manufacturing specialists, you’ll help define how the aircraft’s electrical systems integrate and perform in normal operation and failure conditions.
As the workload grows, the scope is planned to split into load and power management, wiring interconnection, and charging and ground power. You’ll have a voice in how your focus develops as that happens.
What you'll be doing
Own the electrical load analysis and power budget across flight phases and failure cases, including emergency medical mission loads.
Design low-voltage generation, conversion and distribution, including essential and emergency buses and load shedding.
Define power provision for avionics, mission, medical and cabin systems, addressing power quality and transient behaviour.
Own wiring architecture and routing, segregation, bonding, grounding, connectors, protection and installation standards.
Define the aircraft charging and ground power interface, including protocols, protection and isolation, coordinating with the team responsible for off-board infrastructure.
Specify high-voltage-to-low-voltage conversion requirements and agree interfaces with the battery domain.
Support safety assessments, qualification and installation testing, including electrical failure analysis, essential load survival and integrated ground testing.
What you'll bring
10+ years in aircraft electrical systems engineering, including at least four years on airborne programmes taken through to installed hardware.
Personal ownership of an aircraft electrical load analysis and power budget through design maturity.
Experience designing low-voltage distribution, essential and emergency bus architectures, and load shedding.
Wiring interconnection expertise covering routing, separation, bonding, grounding and installation standards.
Strong knowledge of electrical protection coordination, isolation and fault behaviour.
Experience supporting electrical certification evidence through qualification and installation testing.
You’ll also bring useful additional experience if you’ve worked on electric or hybrid-electric aircraft with flight-critical electrical power, charging or ground power interfaces, lightning and high-intensity radiated field protection, harness tooling and PLM, or hot-climate installation and derating.
Why this role?
You’ll influence the electrical architecture while the key decisions are still being made, with ownership across closely connected systems and direct access to the engineers shaping the wider aircraft.
For an experienced engineer who wants to remain technically hands-on, this offers broad responsibility, meaningful integration challenges and a say in how your specialism develops as the workload grows, all supported by a competitive tax-free salary, relocation and healthcare in Dubai
