Lawyer (Adults)

About the Role
I am seeking experienced **Adults Lawyers** to support Dorset Local Authority on a temporary basis for an initial 3‑month assignment. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality legal advice and representation across Adult Social Care matters, with a strong emphasis on **Court of Protection** and **Mental Health** work.

You will manage a varied caseload, provide clear and practical legal advice to client departments, and handle complex statutory responsibilities. At least one appointed candidate must have demonstrable experience managing **Deputyship applications** in the Court of Protection.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Adult Social Care legal matters
- Conduct Welfare and Section 21A applications in the Court of Protection
- Provide advice on Ordinary Residence matters
- Handle Nearest Relative applications
- Manage and advise on Deputyship applications
- Provide legal advice relating to the Mental Health Act
- Attend hearings and undertake advocacy where required
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners

Skills & Experience Required
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a valid practising certificate
- Proven experience in Adult Social Care law
- Strong experience in Court of Protection matters, including Welfare and Section 21A applications
- Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Act
- Experience advising on Ordinary Residence and Nearest Relative matters
- **Essential:** must have experience managing Deputyship applications
- Excellent communication and case management skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage competing priorities
