How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

* Acting as the primary point of contact for applicants, offering advice on entry routes, funding options, and progression opportunities.

* Conducting structured admissions interviews to assess academic readiness, motivation, and support needs.

* Evaluating non-traditional applications using agreed frameworks, recognising professional experience and performance-based evidence.

* Collaborating with partnership colleagues to align admissions processes with institutional policies and standards.

* Providing guidance on Student Finance England eligibility and compliance requirements.

* Supporting applicant conversion through personalised communication and outreach activities.

* Identifying early indicators of risk to retention and flagging support needs ahead of enrolment.

* Contributing to continuous improvement of admissions processes and frameworks.

Please note that interviews for shortlisted candidates and any potential job offers may be in place before the application end date. We recommend that, if interested in any of the roles, you apply as soon as possible.

Person Specification

Education

* Educated to A Level or above.

Experience (Desirable)

* Experience in admissions, recruitment, or student services within further or higher education.

* Familiarity with UK higher education systems, Student Finance England, or widening participation initiatives.

* Experience conducting interviews or assessments.

* Experience working with non-traditional or mature learners.

Skills

* Strong administrative skills with the ability to manage a busy workload and meet tight deadlines.

* Excellent customer service skills and a high level of professionalism.

* Strong written and oral communication skills.

* Exceptional attention to detail, cultural awareness, and sensitivity.

* Competent user of Microsoft Office and adaptable to new student record systems.

* A strong commitment to widening participation and student-centred admissions.

In particular, you will:

* Treat all students and staff with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect.

* Have regard for the need to safeguard students’ well-being, developing and maintaining a full understanding of current policies and procedures.

* Show tolerance of and respect for the rights of others.

* Maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality.

* Help to create and maintain a safe working environment for everyone.
