How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Physics Expert (PhD / Postdoc)

Position: Physics Expert (PhD / Postdoc)

Type: Contractor

Compensation: $100–$200/hour

Location: Remote — Worldwide

About the Opportunity

micro1 is engaging Physics Experts at the PhD and Postdoctoral level to contribute advanced scientific knowledge and rigorous problem-solving skills to a high-impact customer project focused on training next-generation AI systems.

In this role, you will solve challenging physics problems within your area of specialization, produce technically rigorous solutions, and help improve how AI systems learn and reason about advanced scientific concepts. No prior AI experience is required — your physics expertise is the primary qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Solve advanced physics problems within your research specialization, providing rigorous derivations and detailed analyses.
  • Produce technically precise and clearly structured solutions using LaTeX mathematical notation.
  • Clearly document assumptions, approximations, intermediate reasoning, and final results.
  • Use SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for symbolic or numerical verification and reproducible computational workflows where appropriate.
  • Identify important subtleties in problem statements, including special cases, boundary conditions, limiting cases, and dimensional consistency.
  • Identify ambiguities or potential issues in project materials and propose well-reasoned interpretations or clarifications.
  • Review and revise submitted solutions based on feedback from project reviewers.
  • Integrate corrections accurately while maintaining consistency and clarity.
  • Follow rigorous documentation and reproducibility standards consistent with professional scientific research.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics or advanced-stage PhD candidacy with active research experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated research expertise in at least one advanced physics subfield.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts precisely.
  • Proficiency with LaTeX for mathematical and scientific writing.
  • Working proficiency with Python, SymPy, and Jupyter for computational or numerical work.
  • Ability to independently analyze complex physics problems and produce well-supported solutions.
  • Strong attention to mathematical and physical consistency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active or recent research experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • High Energy Physics
  • Mathematical Physics
  • Biophysics
  • Statistical Physics
  • Condensed Matter Physics
  • Moiré Systems
  • Magnetism
  • PXP / Rydberg Systems
  • AMO / Quantum Optics
  • Gravitation
  • Cosmology
  • Astrophysics
  • Quantum Information
  • Optical Properties of Materials
  • 2–5 recent representative publications from approximately the past five years, with accessible arXiv or DOI records.
  • Experience producing rigorous scientific publications, technical reports, or research documentation.
  • Ability to identify nuanced physical principles and distinguish between valid and invalid solution approaches.
  • Willingness to indicate areas where additional computational or technical support may be useful.

Key Areas of Expertise

  • Advanced Physics
  • Mathematical Physics
  • Theoretical & Computational Physics
  • Scientific Problem Solving
  • Mathematical Derivations
  • LaTeX
  • Python
  • SymPy
  • Jupyter
  • Numerical & Symbolic Computation
  • Scientific Modeling
  • Technical Research Communication
  • Scientific Documentation
  • Research Reproducibility

Engagement Details

  • Compensation: $100–$200/hour
  • Commitment: 10–15+ hours per week
  • Project Duration: Approximately 8–10 weeks
  • Work Arrangement: Fully remote
  • Schedule: Fully flexible, including the ability to work after hours or on weekends
  • Start: Immediate project engagement expected

Eligibility

Candidates should have advanced academic or research expertise in physics, strong mathematical and computational fluency, and the ability to consistently deliver rigorous, well-documented scientific solutions throughout the engagement.

Application Process

  1. Submit your resume and complete the application form.
  2. Highlight your physics specialization, research experience, publications, and computational expertise.
  3. Participate in any required screening or technical evaluation.
  4. Receive further instructions regarding onboarding and project participation.
