How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are looking to recruit a Bank Residential Childcare Trainer to join our fantastic Apprenticeship team. As Surrey County Council are planning to expand the number of residential childcare homes across the county, we are looking for someone who is flexible and responsive to change in an evolving sector to join us in making this apprenticeship delivery a success.

We are committed to providing a healthy work life balance which includes flexible working. Although this position is based at our Woking Adult Learning Centre, staff can work in an agile way, including from home. Travel within Surrey to our other centres and learner work placements within Surrey's Children's Residential care homes will be required. There may be occasions when you will need to work outside of normal 9-5 office hours as this depends on your learners' shifts.

About The Role

As a Bank Residential Childcare Trainer, you will deliver apprenticeship programs through group and individual sessions at apprentices' workplaces, training centres, or remotely via MS Teams. Your role includes all aspects of training, assessment, and adherence to Quality Assurance and regulatory standards, using OneFile e-portfolio for planning, assessments, and feedback.

You will support and motivate a caseload of around 15-18 learners, integrating key topics such as safeguarding, British values, and EDI into your sessions. You'll manage communication with learners and their line managers, ensuring progress and implementing action plans as needed. While Functional Skills English and Maths are taught separately by specialists, you will embed these skills into the apprenticeship delivery.

This role is to deliver the Residential Childcare Apprenticeships at Level 4 and Level 5. These apprenticeships include the Level 3 and Level 5 NCFE/CACHE Diplomas, information of which can be found via the following links:

Level 4 - Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our :

Residential/social childcare qualification and/or significant professional experience in a senior residential childcare role
Thorough knowledge of current children's home legislation in England
A level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in both English and Maths
You will need the willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of this role
Excellent IT and organisational skills You will need to hold the below teaching and assessing qualifications:

An introductory teaching/training award (PTLLS/L3 Award in Education & Training or equivalent)
An Assessor qualification (TAQA/A1 or equivalent) To apply, we request that you submit a CV and you will be asked the following 4 questions:

Please describe your residential childcare qualifications and / or experience working in children's residential care setting.
Please provide an example of how you have applied current legislation, regulations, or quality standards in your work to improve outcomes.
Please outline your teaching / training and assessor qualifications and describe your experience of delivering training, assessing learners or supporting professional development in the workplace.
The role requires managing a caseload of learners, using e-portfolio systems, and travelling in Surrey. Please can you provide an example demonstrating your IT, Organisational and time-management skills. This role is subject to an online / social media check as part of our safer recruitment processes, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) check will be required for this role.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 31/10/2026 with interviews planned to follow.

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation and will move to new authorities in April 2027. This role is currently employed by Surrey County Council and will remain so until then. If you are employed by Surrey County Council on 1 April 2027, your employment will transfer under TUPE arrangements to one of the new councils, with your current terms and conditions protected. The provisional allocation for this post is West Surrey Council subject to final confirmation through the wider transition process later this year.

Our Commitment

We are a disability confident employer which means if you have shared a disability on your application form and have evidenced you meet the minimum shortlisting criteria, as displayed on the advert, we guarantee you an interview.

Your skills and experience truly matter to us. From application to your first day, we're committed to supporting you with any adjustments you need, we value inclusion and warmly welcome you to join and help build a workplace where everyone belongs
