The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:
Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.
Yard Manager (Building Merchants)

Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 DOE
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm
Optima are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, independent building merchants based in Croydon for an experienced Yard Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and growing business that prides itself on delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining high operational standards.
This is a hands-on, working Yard Manager position. You'll be expected to lead by example, working alongside your team daily while ensuring the yard operates safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is not an office-based management role.
The Role
As Yard Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the yard, managing a team while ensuring excellent service is provided to all customers.
Key responsibilities include:•Managing and motivating a team of operatives.•Leading from the front by working alongside the team in the yard.•Overseeing the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vehicles.•Ensuring customer collections are prepared accurately and on time.•Coordinating outbound deliveries to ensure orders leave as scheduled.•Managing stock levels and carrying out regular stock checks.•Liaising with the buying team to maintain appropriate stock availability.•Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.•Providing excellent customer service and assisting customers when required.•Ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:•Previous management or supervisory experience within a building merchants’ environment (essential).•Experience working within a builders' merchant or similar construction supplies business (essential).•A proactive, hands-on approach with strong leadership skills.•Excellent organisational and communication skills.•The ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks.•A strong focus on customer service and operational efficiency.•Knowledge of stock control and yard operations.A valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence would be advantageous; however, full training and certification can be provided for the right candidate if required.
