AEROSPACE - Technical Author Contract - 6 Months (OUTSIDE IR35)
We are seeking an experienced Technical Author to support the development, certification, manufacture, and ongoing support of aerospace products. The role focuses on producing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation across the full engineering lifecycle, ensuring alignment with aerospace standards and regulatory expectations.
This position requires hands-on collaboration with engineering and programme teams and is fully onsite due to the nature of the work.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Documentation
- Create and maintain structured, accurate technical documentation, including:
-Engineering requirements and specifications
-Design descriptions and technical reports
-Verification documentation, including test plans, procedures, and reports
- Convert complex engineering data into clear, well-organised technical content suitable for multiple stakeholders
Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with engineers and project teams to gather, review, and validate technical information
- Actively challenge and clarify content to ensure technical accuracy and completeness
Standards, Compliance & Certification
- Ensure documentation complies with relevant aerospace standards and regulatory requirements
- Support certification activities, customer reviews, audits, and formal assessments
- Maintain traceability between requirements, design outputs, and verification evidence
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Technical Author / Technical Writer within the aerospace sector
- Strong ability to understand and document complex engineering systems
- Excellent written English with meticulous attention to detail
- Experience managing controlled documentation and versioning
- Confident working with multidisciplinary technical teams in a regulated environment
Desirable Experience
- Experience working to aerospace documentation standards
- Familiarity with certification, compliance, and verification documentation
- Background documenting requirements, specifications, and test evidence
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, or software-based systems
