THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you a proactive, driven Health & Safety professional who knows how to turn legislation into action?
We’re looking for a hands-on Health & Safety Officer to take ownership of the Health & Safety function within a growing, third-generation family business.
Reporting to senior management, you’ll drive compliance, improve workplace safety and embed a culture where everyone takes responsibility. This is not a box-ticking role – we need someone who takes ownership, challenges unsafe practices and delivers measurable results.
🔥 WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
* Lead the site’s Health & Safety function, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
* Develop, implement and review Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and Safe Operating Procedures.
* Conduct workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments, identifying hazards and driving corrective actions.
* Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and preventing recurrence.
* Coordinate statutory inspections of lifting equipment, forklift trucks, fire extinguishers, ladders and racking.
* Maintain emergency procedures, fire safety records, the Fire Log Book and incident reporting systems.
* Deliver staff inductions, toolbox talks and Health & Safety training for employees, visitors and contractors.
* Advise and coach senior management, HR, technical teams and line managers on safe working practices.
* Lead monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings, monitor KPIs and ensure actions are completed.
* Promote hazard reporting, improve housekeeping standards and support internal and external audits.
🎯 WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
* NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
* Previous experience in Health & Safety management and delivering training.
* Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, compliance and risk management.
* Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
* A proactive, self-motivated approach, with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices and drive improvements.
* The ability to work independently, influence people at all levels and see actions through to completion.
* Basic knowledge of occupational health protocols.
Desirable: NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH membership and experience developing effective Health & Safety management systems.
