They are currently seeking a hands-on, forward-thinking Design Engineer to join their R&D function in Northampton and play a pivotal role in shaping their next generation of physical products. This is a stand alone role within the company which has come about to due to retirement.
The Role of Design Engineer
The role would ideally suit someone who has experience with designing equipment within pneumatics/airflow/vacuum systems etc. This is a brilliant, multi-disciplinary role that blends mechanical engineering, product design, and commercial R&D. You will be a vital, hands-on link in the full product lifecycle taking innovative ideas from initial concept sketches, through mechanical design and prototyping, straight into manufacturing and pre-launch.

Key Responsibilities for Design Engineer

Concept to Launch: Assist in developing new mechanical products from initial design and prototyping through to manufacture and launch.

Hands-on Prototyping & Testing: Build, evaluate, and rigorously test physical prototypes to validate structural performance, reliability, and troubleshoot mechanical issues.

Product & Market Innovation: Evaluate new product concepts and technical solutions tailored for the market, using customer feedback to optimize product design.
*
Manufacturing & Commercialization: Work closely with the wider team to ensure all product designs are commercially viable, cost-effective, and fully optimized for manufacturing.
*
Project Management: Simultaneously manage multiple product development projects, ensuring critical engineering deadlines and quality standards are met.
*
Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous design and performance improvements across the existing product range, maintaining detailed engineering and R&D documentation.
*
Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with senior management to report on project risks/opportunities, and provide technical guidance to the sales and marketing teams.
Ideally the Design Engineer will:

A strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or R&D Engineering.
*
Proven experience in physical product development taking items from concept, through prototyping, and into manufacturing.
*
A highly practical, hands-on engineering mindset with great troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
*
Experience or familiarity with physical machinery, materials, and mechanical assemblies
*
A versatile engineer who is open to learning new technologies, manufacturing methods, and working with a blend of mechanical and basic electrical components.
