How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Higher Level Learning Support Assistant to support teaching and learning across the College, with a particular focus on students with Educational, Health and Care Plans.

You will work proactively within the classroom to support learning, deliver targeted interventions and, where appropriate, plan and lead English or Maths learning activities for individuals and small groups. Under the direction of the class tutor, you will be required to contribute to the assessment and monitoring of student progress.

A significant aspect of the role involves supporting students with a range of additional needs, including emotional and behavioural challenges, enabling them to access the curriculum alongside their peers and progress confidently towards adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality learning support for SEND students in classroom and workshop environments
Plan, deliver and assess learning activities for individuals and small groups
Provide targeted intervention strategies to support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement
Support the implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
Promote independence, resilience and self-esteem in students while maintaining professional boundaries
Monitor student progress and contribute to assessments, reports and reviews
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and support services to ensure inclusive teaching practice
Use your initiative while working effectively under the direction of teaching staff
The successful candidate will have:

Previous experience working with young people in an educational setting
A strong understanding of SEND, EHCPs and a range of learning needs
Proven experience of delivering or supporting learning interventions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to motivate, engage and support students to become independent learners
You must hold:

5 GCSEs (Grade A–C) including English Language and Maths*, or equivalent
Having HLTA Status, or a relevant Level 4/5 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent experience at HLTA level would be an advantage

Experience of working within the Further Education Sector would be a distinct advantage.

Professional Development.

You will receive a comprehensive induction and access to continuous professional development, including training on specific learning needs such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals considering progression into teaching, SEND leadership or wider educational roles.

In return, we offer a warm and welcoming college with an excellent benefits package that includes:

25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays and 10 College closure days (pro-rata)
Family-friendly policies, including flexible working arrangements
A well-respected pension scheme (West Yorkshire Pension Fund with an above average employer contribution)
Free car parking at all our college sites (on a first come, first served basis)
Family friendly policies and opportunities for flexible working
Superb opportunities for training and development
Discounted travel on public transport and a Cycle to work scheme
