Health and Safety Advisor
 
Location: Ilfracombe 
Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on experience
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

About the Opportunity
We are delighted to be supporting an established organisation within the manufacturing and engineering sector with the appointment of a Health and Safety Advisor.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for a Health and Safety professional to play an important role in supporting the organisation's Health and Safety strategy, compliance requirements and continued development of a positive safety culture.
 
Working closely with the Health and Safety Manager and stakeholders across the business, you will provide practical advice and support on Health and Safety responsibilities, legislation, risk management and best practice.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the continual improvement of Health and Safety standards within a technically focused and operational environment.
 
The Role
As Health and Safety Advisor, you will support the Health and Safety Manager with the day-to-day coordination and administration of Health and Safety activities across the organisation.
 
Key responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Health and Safety Manager in maintaining effective Health and Safety management systems and processes.
Working with managers, leaders and employees across the business to promote a positive and proactive Health and Safety culture.
Providing advice and guidance on Health and Safety responsibilities, legislation, risk assessment and best practice.
Supporting the organisation in maintaining compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and applicable standards.
Supporting the maintenance of ISO 45001 requirements and associated management systems.
Assisting with internal and external audits, including preparation of documentation, data and supporting evidence.
Supporting the development, review and communication of Health and Safety policies, procedures and associated documentation.
Maintaining Health and Safety records, databases, dashboards, trackers and reports accurately and within required timescales.
Monitoring and maintaining accident, incident and near-miss records and assisting with associated reporting and follow-up actions.
Supporting the investigation and management of Health and Safety issues and corrective actions where required.
Assisting with risk assessments and ensuring identified actions are followed through to completion.
Supporting Display Screen Equipment (DSE) risk assessments and associated remedial actions.
Supporting occupational health administration and processes in collaboration with HR.
Supporting the Health and Safety Committee and contributing to employee engagement and awareness initiatives.
Supporting Health and Safety training activities in conjunction with relevant internal teams.
Maintaining the Health and Safety legal register and assisting with reviews of legislative requirements.
Supporting environmental compliance activities where required, including maintaining relevant documentation and records.
Contributing to environmental aspects and impacts assessments and continual improvement activities.
Preparing Health and Safety information, reports and data for management reviews, meetings and other stakeholders.
Identifying opportunities for continual improvement and helping to embed a culture of proactive risk management and safe working practices. About You
 
We are looking for a proactive and collaborative Health and Safety professional who is comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation.
 
You will ideally have:

NEBOSH National General Certificate, or an equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
Experience working in a Health and Safety role, ideally within a manufacturing, engineering or similarly operational environment.
Good working knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
Understanding of risk assessment principles and practical risk management.
An understanding of ISO 45001 and, ideally, ISO 14001 requirements.
Experience supporting audits and maintaining management systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good analytical and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
Good report-writing and documentation skills.
Strong Excel skills, including the ability to maintain trackers, analyse information and produce reports.
The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
A practical and solutions-focused approach to Health and Safety.
The confidence to communicate Health and Safety requirements effectively at all levels. An environmental qualification or relevant environmental experience would be advantageous.
