Full-Time English and Humanities Tutor - Dubai - Immediate Start
Carfax Education Group is seeking a full-time English tutor to be based in Dubai, teaching English Language and Literature at GCSE, A level, and IB to the children of internationally mobile, ultra-high-net-worth families.
The role
- A salaried position as a full-time member of Carfax teaching staff - this is not a residential placement with a single family.
- Teaching at clients' homes across Dubai, at the Carfax tuition centre at Dubai Knowledge Village, and online.
- Ten-month contract, with two weeks' leave at Christmas.
- Immediate start: candidates must be able to relocate to Dubai within one week of offer.
- Teaching English at GCSE, A level, and IB; the ability to teach other humanities subjects and willingness to teach younger pupils are important bonuses and will strengthen an application considerably.
On successful completion of the initial ten-month contract, the position is likely to lead to permanent employment. Tutors typically stay with Carfax for two to four years, and many have gone on to further their careers within the Carfax Education Group in the UAE and throughout Carfax's global network of offices, as well as to significant positions within the international private education industry.
The candidate
- A graduate of the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge is preferred; graduates of other academically credible universities will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
- Proven experience of teaching or tutoring English at GCSE, A level, or IB, with a strong record of examination results.
- The ability to impart genuine enthusiasm for learning, and to encourage and motivate pupils to achieve.
- No previous employment in a UK state school or for a local council.
- An informed, settled commitment to living and working in the UAE for the full duration of the contract. Candidates must be ready to relocate at very short notice and should apply only if they are certain of that commitment.
Ethos and expectations
Carfax is a traditional, academically rigorous, and unapologetically non-woke organization. Its clientele comprises some of the most privileged families in the world, and candidates must be entirely free of ideological reservations about serving such families faithfully and furthering the advantages of their children. Carfax does not operate DEI policies, and it is not a suitable environment for candidates who expect DEI considerations, rather than merit, to play any part in gaining employment. Appointments are made strictly on academic and professional merit.
To Carfax, whatever a client family's nationality, politics, public position, or prominence, they are first and last, and like any other family, parents who want the best for their children. Our tutors serve them in exactly that spirit.
Privacy is strongly protected in the UAE, in law and in custom. Given the nature of Carfax's clientele, discretion is of the utmost importance: tutors are admitted to their clients' homes and family life, and absolute confidentiality, during and after an engagement, is a condition of the role.
The UAE levies no personal income tax. Tutors new to the Emirates may be surprised to find a very safe and orderly society, marked by a common sense and a respect for individual liberty that are increasingly rare in the UK. It is a very ambitious, fast-moving, and forward-looking country, refreshingly free of the self-destructive progressive and liberal orthodoxies currently dominant in Britain.
Carfax takes its obligations to its pupils extremely seriously, chief among them continuity. Completion of the full academic year is an absolute condition of engagement. Withdrawal mid-contract, other than in a genuine emergency, will be treated as a serious breach of contract and will be reflected in any reference given. Candidates who anticipate prioritizing travel, lifestyle, or holidays over their pupils' examination goals should not apply.
Carfax regards the influence of the teaching unions on British education as thoroughly pernicious. Employment with Carfax is based in Dubai under UAE labour law, which does not allow trade unions to exist. Candidates should be advised that those who sympathize with trade union methods will not find Carfax a congenial environment and should not apply.
