Our client is a well-established organisation operating within a highly regulated, technically demanding manufacturing environment. They are seeking an experienced Utilities Refrigeration Engineer to join their engineering and maintenance team.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically competent engineer who enjoys working with complex mechanical and refrigeration systems, identifying faults, improving equipment reliability and ensuring that essential services remain operational.
The position would particularly suit an experienced military engineer, either transitioning into civilian employment or already established within industry, who possesses the necessary refrigeration qualifications and experience.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Management Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking planned preventative maintenance (PPM), fault diagnosis, repairs and improvements across the site's refrigeration and associated utilities systems.
Working within a demanding production environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the continuous availability and reliability of essential engineering services.
This is a hands-on engineering position requiring someone who can work independently, demonstrate sound technical judgement and maintain high standards of safety and operational compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake planned preventative maintenance on refrigeration and associated utilities equipment.
* Diagnose mechanical and refrigeration faults, carrying out effective repairs to minimise operational disruption.
* Maintain and improve equipment reliability through proactive engineering interventions.
* Record maintenance activities, equipment history and technical information using computerised engineering systems.
* Ensure all engineering activities comply with Health & Safety requirements, site procedures and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
* Provide comprehensive technical handovers to engineering colleagues.
* Assist with the supervision and coordination of external maintenance contractors.
* Identify and implement engineering improvements to increase plant efficiency, reliability and operational performance.
* Maintain awareness of relevant technical regulations and industry standards.
* Work collaboratively with other engineering and operational departments to support production requirements.
Our client is looking for an experienced, practical and self-motivated refrigeration engineer who can demonstrate strong fault-finding abilities, technical competence and a proactive approach to engineering maintenance.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
* NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Servicing and Maintaining Refrigeration Systems, or equivalent qualification.
* F-Gas Category 1 certification (2079 or equivalent recognised certification).
* Proven experience working within refrigeration servicing, industrial refrigeration or facilities maintenance.
* Strong technical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
* Experience undertaking planned and reactive engineering maintenance.
* Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures and engineering compliance.
* Competent IT skills, including the ability to maintain engineering records and documentation.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
Desirable Experience:
* NVQ Level 3 in Refrigeration or an equivalent technical qualification.
* Additional electrical or mechanical engineering qualifications.
* Experience working with industrial utilities systems, including: Chillers and refrigeration plant, HVAC systems, Boilers and associated plant, Compressed air systems, Water systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
* Experience within pharmaceutical, process manufacturing or similarly regulated environments.
* Knowledge or experience of freeze-drying equipment.
We would welcome applications from suitably qualified former members of the UK Armed Forces, particularly those who have gained engineering and maintenance experience in technically demanding environments either during their service or after they have left.
Military personnel often bring a disciplined approach to preventative maintenance, technical troubleshooting, safety compliance and operational reliability.
However, the appropriate refrigeration qualifications and relevant practical experience are essential, regardless of military background.
