The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:
Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Our client, an established engineering business based a few miles north of Cambridge, is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Toolmaker to lead and develop its precision machining function. You will undertake precision machining for advanced engineering applications, working with materials such as stainless steel, titanium and engineering plastics, on a mix of prototype, development and small batch production. This is a hands on managerial role ideal for someone with strong technical expertise, leadership ability and a proactive, commercially aware mindset.
Responsibilities:
- Produce high quality precision components to technical drawings and specifications
- Lead, mentor and support a small engineering team
- Plan and schedule machining activities to meet deadlines
- Take full ownership of machining operations, ensuring efficiency, quality and reliability
- Work within financial constraints while maintaining quality
- Coordinate with internal teams to support workflow
- Contribute to design for manufacture (DFM) discussions
- Recommend improvements in tooling, fixturing and machining strategy
- Drive initiatives to reduce waste and improve cycle times
Requirements:
- Extensive experience programming, setting, and operating CNC milling and turning machines
- Knowledge of CNC control systems (e.g. Hurco, Fanuc)
- Familiarity with CAM software (e.g. Fusion 360)
- Skilled in manual machining (lathes and mills)
- Able to work to tight tolerances (±0.01 mm)
- Competent with inspection equipment and in-process quality control
- Ability to optimise machining programs for efficiency
- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision

- Able to work independently and collaboratively
- Highly organised and deadline driven
- Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
