Salary


£30,000 - £32,000 salary dependent on experience, plus anticipated performance-related bonus of £5,000+. Excellent opportunities for career and salary progression.

Interview Process


The interview process is (1) telephone screen to establish a fit on both sides, (2) written task, (3) second round interview, (4) final questions, potentially leading to an offer. The interview process should take no longer than two weeks.


Role Summary


The successful candidate will join a close, friendly team, working for a company with a strong social mission and a clear purpose beyond just making money.


You will research exciting areas within the realm of the life sciences, researching topics and speaking to scientists, building agendas, securing scientific speakers, writing copy, and running digital and in-person events, including the UK's largest life sciences event.


The role suits someone who loves science but doesn't want to work in the lab, enjoys talking to people and is intellectually curious, is creative, entrepreneurial, can write well, has an eye for detail, is organised and likes building new products.

Working Location


This is a remote role, although you must be able to travel to London for one day per month, and travel to our two large events (London and Boston). You must be based in the UK, with a legal right to work in the UK.

Products: We run the Festival(s) of Genomics & Biodata in London and Boston (the London event is the UK’s largest life sciences event), several senior-level meetups, webinars and reports. We also produce articles, interviews and other content for our audience, housed on our website.


Who we help: We help people working in healthcare organisation (such as the NHS), academia/research, pharma/biotech and others to make better use of genomics, omics, biodata, AI and other related technologies. We also support technology companies, investors, government officials and patient organisations.

The Role/Purpose:


The main elements of this role are as follows:


(1) Strategy


· Contribute to business and events strategy. You will have the opportunity to influence the overall business and events strategy immediately, also helping to develop the strategy for events that you produce.

· Build strategically meaningful partnerships with key individuals and organisations who can help us achieve our objectives (and who we can help achieve theirs).


(2) Production


· Research with scientists and others. You will conduct deep, detailed research with scientists working at the leading edge of their field, developing relationships with key contacts. You will gather the required amount of intelligence/information to build your products and document your research notes for other project team members and for future use.

· Agenda/product building. You will write compelling, detailed agendas/outlines/sessions for conferences, webinars and the Festivals that dig deep, resonate with our audience and accurately reflect their priorities.

· Speaker acquisition. Leveraging the strength of our brands and agendas/outlines you write, you will secure a world-class, diverse speaker line-up, confirming to speak people who will inspire, engage and educate our audience.

· Speaker management. You will follow a defined process for managing speakers, including inviting and confirming, gathering information and collateral, regular, structured communication and the maintenance of speaker relationships before, during and following each event you produce.

· Drive financial and social performance. During production, you will take measures to ensure the financial performance is optimized, including the gathering and communication of information that will optimize sales and marketing performance. You will also build products with a clear social objective in mind (i.e., optimize how the products you build contribute to our social mission).

· Guide successful event delivery. You will be a persuasive communicator, briefing other members of the project team with your findings and rationale, and taking input to refine the product you are building.


(3) Event operations


· Support successful event delivery. You will travel to physical events (in the UK and USA) to support the onsite delivery of the Festivals. You will also be directly involved in the delivery of digital events, such as webinars.


(4) Culture and development

Requirements


· Education: A first or 2.1 bachelor’s degree in a biological sciences subject. This is a must have. A Masters degree or PhD is a plus, but is not necessary.

· Experience: This is a graduate role, so no experience as an event producer is necessary. Any relevant work experience, including on scientific events, is a plus.

· A LOVE of science. You are probably that person who bores family and friends in the pub with news of a exciting scientific breakthroughs.

· Strong organizational skills. You are in control of every element of the projects that you work on while delivering all of the objectives of the project.

· Excellent writing and editing skills. You understand the important elements of copywriting and are able to translate these into excellent copy.

· Eye for detail. You also have a keen eye for detail, and you are able to constructively edit/proof copy and keep records up to date.

· A love of talking to scientists and medical professionals. You are comfortable and enjoy speaking with scientists, clinicians and business leaders, and have a strong capacity to build new, mutually beneficial relationships.

· Independent and proactive. You must be a self-starter. You enjoy working as part of a team and are full of initiative. You are a positive thinker, and constructive with your criticism, always seeking solutions for any problems you identify.

· Transparency and directness. You are willing to speak your mind in all situations, including when you need help or are falling behind. You have a mature approach to business and demonstrate strong emotional intelligence.

Other Information


- Holiday: A total of 33-34 days per year, including 25 days of bookable annual leave, plus 8 public holidays, plus your birthday (upon completion of your probationary period).

- Pension: Contributory group pension scheme upon three months of employment.

- Remote working: You will work remotely, with just 1 day per month in London (you will need to travel to London at your own expense for monthly meetups).

- Event travel required. To both London and Boston Festivals.

- Flexible working. Our core hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm, but you can adjust your working hours to suit your personal preference/schedule, where possible (e.g., working 8.00am to 4.30pm).

- Family friendly policies, including flexibility around working schedules (for example, to handle school runs) and the opportunity to reduce your working hours.

- Culture: We are a small, close-knit team, with a strong focus on team culture. More detailed information about our culture will be shared with you during the recruitment process.
