How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Senior Hydrologist

Salary: £45,000 to £60,000 (dependent on experience)

Location:

South UK: Bristol, Cambridge, London or Reading or North UK: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Leeds, Manchester or Sheffield

About the Role:
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Hydrologist to join its Water Resources and Flooding team.

The role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects across the UK and internationally, supporting major water companies, regulators and clients within the water and hydropower sectors.

You will work across a broad range of hydrology, water resources and climate resilience projects, with opportunities to develop your technical, project management and client-facing skills.

About the Client:
Our client has a team covering hydrology, water resources, climate resilience, flood risk, hydraulic modelling, hydrogeology and water quality.

The wider team provides opportunities to work alongside specialists across the water sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the delivery of hydrology and water resources projects.
Provide technical advice across a range of hydrology and water resources areas.
Undertake low-flow assessments and water systems modelling to assess water availability during drought conditions.
Support the implementation of hydrological forecasting systems.
Assess future changes in climate variables using global and regional climate projections.
Deliver flood hydrology studies, including climate change impacts.
Support hydropower feasibility studies, including design flood estimation and energy generation assessments.
Undertake climate change risk and impact assessments for assets and portfolios.
Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients.
Lead or contribute to bids and proposals across water resources, environmental and engineering projects.
Provide technical oversight, mentoring and support to less experienced colleagues.
Develop project management and business development skills through engagement with clients and regulatory stakeholders.What Our Client is Looking For:

Relevant degree in Hydrology, Geography, Mathematics, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Chartered status with a recognised professional institution.
Proven experience in hydrology, water resources or a closely related discipline.
Knowledge of low-flow hydrology, rainfall-runoff modelling and/or climate change impact assessment.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver high-quality technical outputs.
Pragmatic approach to technical challenges and an interest in innovation.Desirable:

Consultancy experience within water resources and hydrology.
Postgraduate qualification in hydrology, water resources management or a related discipline.
Understanding of UK water resources planning and associated regulatory requirements.
Experience with rainfall-runoff modelling packages such as GR6J, Catchmod or PDM.
Experience with water systems modelling packages such as Aquator, WEAP or Pywr.
Experience in coding, statistical analysis or data modelling.
Experience applying UKCP18 and/or CMIP5/6 climate projections.What Our Client Offers:
