This is a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing business specialising in sheet metal components and fabricated equipment. Operating in a quality-driven environment, the business produces high-spec parts requiring tight tolerances, consistent finishes, and reliable supply chain performance.
They work closely with fabrication processes including cutting, forming, and assembly, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
As a Sheet Metal Buyer, you’ll take ownership of sourcing and purchasing materials, components, and subcontract services related to sheet metal fabrication.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll balance day-to-day purchasing with supplier management and cost improvement activities. You’ll work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure materials and subcontract processes are aligned with manufacturing requirements.
A strong understanding of sheet metal processes will be key to success in this role.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Source and procure sheet metal materials, components, and subcontract services
Raise and manage purchase orders to support production schedules
Work closely with fabrication teams to understand requirements and priorities
Manage suppliers across processes such as laser cutting, punching, forming, and finishing
Monitor deliveries and resolve delays or quality issues
Negotiate pricing, lead times, and supply agreements
Identify cost-saving opportunities and support value improvement initiatives
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
Support supplier performance reviews and improvement activities
Ensure continuity of supply for productionWhat They’re Looking For
Experience as a Buyer within a sheet metal, fabrication, or precision engineering environment
Strong understanding of sheet metal processes (cutting, forming, fabrication)
Commercial awareness with strong negotiation skills
Experience managing suppliers and subcontract manufacturing processes
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (advantageous)
Strong organisational and communication skills
Experience using ERP/MRP systems
