We are looking for a Technical Architect in the Geotechnical Applications domain to join our Global Technology department in Nootdorp, the Netherlands. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, strengthen engineering capabilities, and contribute to the evolution of our global geotechnical solutions.
This position bridges architecture, hands‑on engineering, and people management. You will work closely with the Service Line Solution Architect.
In this role, you will be a hands‑on Technical Architect, responsible for the technical architecture of Geotechnical applications and workflows. The teams you work with are in transition towards AI‑First ways of working, where AI is actively used to enhance engineering productivity, quality, and decision‑making. This transition is a deliberate, long‑term direction, and you are expected to actively shape and mature AI‑First practices together with the teams.
You will work with our modern data and workflow ecosystem, which supports geotechnical operations through several key platforms: Lab Pro for digital data capture and test result management, LAM for lab planning, QA/QC, and asset operations, Topaz as our internal workflow and data platform connecting processes and systems, and Geovisual for geo‑data interpretation, visualization, and engineering support.
Responsibilities- Shape and evolve the technical architecture for Geotechnical applications in line with digitalisation and enterprise standards.
- Act as the key technical partner to the Geotechnical Solution Architect, ensuring aligned decisions and roadmaps.
- Stay hands‑on with development teams to resolve complex issues and accelerate critical delivery.
- Consider AI‑First principles explicitly when making architectural decisions, including how systems are designed, built, tested, and operated.
- Contribute where it matters most, particularly in React frontends, C#/Python backend services, and AWS cloud solutions.
- Drive high engineering standards across quality, security, testing, CI/CD, DevOps, reliability, and cloud efficiency.
- Define and safeguard architecture principles, patterns, and technical standards across all Geotechnical application components.
- Ensure applications integrate seamlessly across end‑to‑end Geotechnical workflows and with related domains.
- Strong foundation in modern web and service‑oriented architectures, with demonstrated experience as a technical or solution architect in complex environments.
- Experience with, or a strong willingness to dive deep into, geotechnical applications and domain‑specific challenges.
- Proven expertise in React, backend development using C# and/or Python, and building cloud‑native solutions on AWS.
- Ability to design, evolve, and optimise distributed systems and application workflows.
- Experience as a line manager.
- Strong interest in, and preferably experience with, applying AI‑assisted techniques in software engineering or architecture, and motivated to integrate these responsibly into day‑to‑day engineering work.
- Salary range of €6100 to €7300 based on relevant experience, with opportunities for growth within the role.
- 29 holidays per year (including 4 appointed by Fugro management) and the possibility to purchase 12 additional days.
- Extensive career and training opportunities both nationally and internationally.
