About ARTIC
ARTIC Technologies is a young, dynamic company developing advanced microscale fluid control solutions inspired by nature. Our first focus is to enable scientists create better models for preclinical drug testing by offering a user-friendly platform for cell culture. This platform makes cell culture models more human-representative and increases their reproducibility, without compromising ease of use. This saves time and costs in drug development, while ultimately reducing animal tests.
Spun off from Eindhoven University of Technology, we use Magnetic Artificial Cilia (MAC) technology to move and control fluids with high precision. These tiny, nature-inspired hairs enable gentle, contactless fluid flow, which is ideal for complex in-vitro models.
We believe advanced technologies can contribute to a world where both human and the planet thrive. That’s why we are dedicated to transforming disruptive fluid manipulation technologies from the lab into real-world solutions—starting in life sciences, and eventually expanding into sectors as well.
Why this role matters
We are currently in the early stages of developing our dynamic and scalable cell culture platform. This platform consists of an array of tiny magnetic hairs (MAC), a microfluidic plate (MAC plate) and a magnetic actuation system that drives the movement of these hairs (MACnet). First prototypes and functional tests with cells have given us insights on what is possible and where more R&D is needed.
The prototypes of the MAC plate (Gen-1) have proven the plate to be effective in creating controlled flow in a scalable platform. We have generated a workflow to produce the plates in our lab but the next step is to produce them at scale (Gen-2), for example using injection molding. For this, we have industrial manufacturing partners that can advise us and eventually produce the new generation of MAC plates. This is where you will shine, producing Gen-1 plates, communicating with the manufacturing partners and the team to produce and test the Gen-2.
It is a great time to join ARTIC, as you will be working in a small, dedicated team, where your work will really make a difference in moving the mission forward.
Tasks
Your focus will be on the production and testing of MAC plates, which entails:
- Produce MAC plates Gen-1 in-house for functional testing with cells
- Communicate with the team and partners for industrial production of the MAC plates Gen-2;
- Perform quality control of different generations of the MAC plate using our automated methods.
Of course, you will not be doing this alone, but will be working in close collaboration with our CTO and other members of the R&D team. Besides, we work with external parties that are experienced in the industrial development of cell culture products and specialize in various manufacturing methods.
What success would look like
- A smooth in-house production of Gen-1 MAC plate for customer and internal projects;
- Effective communication within ARTIC and with our industrial manufacturing partners for Gen-2 MAC plate design;
- Small scale industrial production of Gen-2 MAC plates according to the design specifications.
