The Trader Cocoa/Sugar is the linking pin between our suppliers, key customers and our commercial team. You are responsible for the trading activities and commercial performance of your products. You take commercial positions and coordinate activities with our regional sales offices and the USA branch office. Additionally, the Trader Cocoa/Sugar co‑manages the trading book, position exposure, and potentially the futures account. Your high energy, drive, creativity and outstanding communication skills will further develop the business to achieve continued growth. The Trader will work at our CS desk, which includes the categories Sugars, Cocoa and Sweeteners.
What you’ll bring- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in commerce/international trade; an agricultural diploma is a big plus.
- 5+ years of experience in a comparable function.
- Affinity with ingredients or agricultural commodities.
- Strong written and verbal skills, ability to concisely communicate with all levels of the organization and executive teams.
- Experience in an import/export environment and successful customer service experience.
- Up to date relevant legal knowledge (trade and liability related).
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Stress resistance and flexibility, prioritization skills, and decisiveness.
- Understanding of the world of commodities (experience with terminal markets is a plus).
- Proficiency in the English language (written and verbal) is a must; command of Dutch, German, Spanish or other languages is a plus.
- IT affinity: advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP systems (working knowledge of SAP is a plus) and the organic industry is a plus.
- Co‑ordinate contacts, provide pricing updates, market reports, etc. With regional sales offices (US, UK, France, DACH).
- Oversee product complaint handling and ensure optimal customer satisfaction.
- Co‑oversee the sourcing, purchase, and sales of the products.
- Participate in setting budgets for cocoa/sugar products.
- Keep track of international market developments and actively seek new trade opportunities and product developments.
- Track results and suggest appropriate corrective action plans.
- Ensure suppliers meet vendor approval criteria in alignment with the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Visit customers/suppliers regularly and participate in relevant assemblies/trade shows.
- Contribute to a smooth cooperation with supporting disciplines.
- Regularly update sales/purchasing policy communicated to sales teams in the Netherlands and abroad to support further structuring of the Business Unit.
