As a fast growing, market leading UK Headquartered FX solutions company, Bound is excited to set up in the Netherlands to access the vast EU market and we are simultaneously pursuing authorisation as a Payments Institution (PSD2) under DNB supervision and as a MiFID II investment firm under AFM supervision. This is a rare founding-level compliance leadership opportunity – you will not inherit a framework, you will build one.
You will report directly to the Country Director, form part of the founding Management Board as a statutory director and work closely with the UK founders and team and, once established, the Supervisory Board. You will be a key voice in both regulatory applications and the primary point of contact for DNB and AFM throughout the authorisation process and beyond.
Tasks
- Ensure compliance with DNB and AFM requirements, including Wft (Wet op het financieel toezicht), Wwft (AML/CFT), Wbft, and relevant EU regulations (MiFID II, EMIR, DORA, GDPR)

- Chair the Risk Committee and reporting to the Supervisory Board
- Embed SIRA (Systematic Integrity Risk Analysis)
- Provide regulatory training to the company
Requirements
- Direct experience working with DNB or AFM as a regulatory supervisor
- 10+ years in a senior compliance or risk role within financial services in the Netherlands

- Eligible to serve as a statutory director (bestuurder) under Dutch law and meet DNB/AFM fit & proper requirements
- Authorized to work in the Netherlands without sponsorship
Benefits
Why you should want this role instead of staying where you are or taking those other roles:
- You’ll have the creative freedom that comes with being the creator of our internal compliance function--you can do things your way (I mean, within reason)
- You’ll have direct interaction with the founders and the product team and your opinion will be listened to and considered as we design iterations of the product
- You’ll be working with people who have an obsession with curiosity and learning--it’s part of the culture we’re building here
- You’ll get these benefits of working at an early-stage company, but you’ll also get paid well. Plus, you’ll get stock options of the company.
- You’re comfortable taking responsibility for compliance matters and managing multifaceted projects. You’re a self-starter and committed to achieving outcomes.
- You’ve helped design and execute compliance functions in financial institutions with broad responsibility for regulatory adherence.
- You’re familiar with payment services and MIFD investment services. Exposure to financial derivatives and FX trading and applicable regulations is desirable.
- You can simultaneously execute today’s compliance work, while planning for the company’s future needs.
- You have 10–15 years in financial services, with at least 5 in a senior compliance or risk role and have direct experience with DNB or AFM supervision
- You’re intellectually flexible and willing to look at situations with a beginner’s mind while ensuring the company’s risk-based approach is reasonable and effective
- You like to work with small, tight-knit teams and embrace the complexity of startup life
- You’ll thrive working in a matrix structure, collaborating effectively across UK and Dutch teams while navigating dual regulatory frameworks under both DNB (PSD2) and AFM (MiFID II) supervision.
About Bound
As companies grow internationally they have income and expenses in different currencies. They also need to convert currencies for various reasons and as a result can lose money due to exchange rate swings.
Bound helps companies minimize such currency risk and loss, by using modern currency hedging technology.
Millions of businesses globally face currency risk every day and volatile currencies can really mess up a company's finances — especially in uncertain times. 96% of the FTSE 500 have hedging strategies in place to mitigate their foreign currency risk, while only 4% of SMEs do the same. We’re looking to help the other 96% of SMEs.
We are an enthusiastic team and have raised +$30 m from investors behind companies such as Wise, Klarna, N26, Stash and Xero. This includes some of the best venture capital firms, including Notion Capital and Valar Ventures.
Over the last few years our business has grown ~3x and we’ve been consistently exceeding our targets. We are now looking to expand into the European market.
