A rare and exciting position is now available in the AXA XL team for an Underwriter Property to support and grow the property insurance product in the Benelux region, with focus on the Dutch domestic market.

In partnership with our experienced underwriting team you will be able to deploy and further develop your technical expertise, working autonomously with minimal oversight, for the function and region. You will contribute to operational excellence by applying your broad insurance knowledge and exercising sound judgment in a variety of situations, including new and complex cases. Your responsibilities will involve underwriting risks for the product line and support Brokers/Clients in understanding our product and finding tailor‑made solutions for the individual Client. All with a chance to develop within the insurance industry in a supportive team led by experienced industry professionals.

This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

What you’ll be DOING

What will your essential responsibilities include?

• Underwriting, managing and growing the domestic property portfolio in line with the business plan;
• Building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients;
• Negotiating with property brokers to achieve our profit objectives;
• Proactively servicing, and following up with clients on insurance and risk management matters and actively identifying opportunities for cross‑selling AXA XL’s products;
• Oversee business development, generate submission flow to meet specific targets;
• Support the business planning and forecasting process; Monitoring aggregate exposure within agreed limits; Monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within agreed limits;
• Maintaining awareness of all claims advised; Supporting and providing input on settlement of claims advised;

• Supporting the design and structure of risks; Analysis and evaluation of all relevant property risks including CATNAT;

• Identifying and driving new product development opportunities;

• Developing your expertise across products, services and targeted markets, contributing to continuous improvement

• Building and maintaining relationships with other product lines and support areas locally in Benelux, particularly distribution, risk engineering and claims to ensure adequate communication.

You will report to the Team Lead Middle Market Property Benelux.

What you will BRING

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred in finance/business, law, insurance, engineering or other related fields, or equivalen​t experience;
• Good knowledge of the insurance market and moderate experience in Property Insurance industry or related industry;
• Passionate about doing business, negotiating and driving growth in a dynamic market. A natural business developer who enjoys being out in the market, with highly developed influencing and negotiation skills and a keen appetite for closing the deal;

Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation;

• IT literacy, Microsoft Office package literacy as a minimum;
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English and Dutch;
• Attention to detail, good organizational skills and confidence to present to brokers and clients; ability to prioritize with both individual and the team’s best interests in mind;
• A team player, able to work independently, with an open mind, with an ambition to learn and grow. Ability to train others and act as mentor for more junior positions.
