Vacaturebeschrijving

Are you passionate about the Finance and Risk domain? Do you have a knack for understanding financial products and a keen interest in business data and process modelling? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our professional team as a Business Data Modeler!

In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise in data modelling techniques and your understanding of the Entity‑Relationship model to interpret and explain logical and conceptual data models in a way that everyone can understand. Your proficiency in SQL and knowledge of ETL processes will be crucial in delivering and reviewing end‑to‑end solutions. You’ll play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between end‑user requirements and business needs. You’ll identify the golden source for each business term, model these terms within conceptual and logical frameworks, create source‑to‑target mappings, and collaborate closely with developers to explore implementation options.

The team

You will be working for finance and risk integrated data architecture (FRIDA) within the department Group Services Finance & Risk/Data Foundation and report to the Data Modelling chapter. Depending on seniority exposure to the wider context in ING is expected. We hire for talent and expect you to show professional growth and will give you all the support you need.

Roles and responsibilities

For this position we are looking for a person who can manage the following:

  • Refine Requirements: Collaborate with business representatives to refine requirements and translate them into business terms and a conceptual model.
  • Deliver Quality Models: Ensure delivery according to agreed principles and quality criteria, including logical data models, mapping of logical data models with data requirements, and documentation of business terms.
  • Create Mappings: Develop source‑to‑requirements mappings for business terms defined by business analysts and source‑to‑target mappings for logical and physical models.
  • Support Development: Provide ongoing support to data engineers during the development of physical data models and data processing.
  • Promote Data Models: Advocate for and support the usage of data models within the ING organization, beyond just the Data Warehouse (DWH).
  • Establish Standards: Set up and maintain ways of working, design principles, standards, and guidelines for data modelling.
  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with programmers, testers, other development teams, and business users.
  • Communicate Clearly: Accurately and concisely articulate issues, questions, and recommendations to customers, team members, and management. Proactively identify and address issues and concerns.
  • Provide Training and Support: Offer training, documentation, and support for business users and other support lines.
How to succeed
  • Expert in requirement engineering, with experience in understanding and defining business terms.
  • Proven experience with data modelling techniques, tools, and methods, including SQL for analysing and validating data from a modelling perspective.
  • Working knowledge of Plant UML for class modelling (good to have).
  • Domain knowledge of the financial industry, including retail and wholesale banking products, financial accounting, management accounting, credit risk, and quantitative risk.
  • Experience in regulatory reporting for finance and risk (FINREP, COREP, CRLTP, ESG, MIFID, liquidity reporting, MIS valuation, customer profitability, EMIR, SFTR).
  • Excellent communication and didactical skills, able to document comprehensively and persuasively.
  • Strong problem analysis and judgment skills, able to evaluate the impact of architectural decisions, actions, choices, risks, and updates on the organization.
  • Persistent and assertive, able to deal with conflicts of interest, obtain acceptable solutions, and not afraid to challenge.
  • Collaborative and influential, able to build meaningful relationships in a large and complex enterprise across functions, levels, and geographic borders. Able to communicate complex ideas and solutions at all levels of the organization and open to ideas from others.
  • Experienced in agile ways of working.
  • Autonomous in executing tasks, preparing advice, and making decisions about implementation.
  • Results‑oriented, with a track record of delivering solutions that exceed business process expectations.
