PHP Back-End Developer - AFS Energy

About the role

We are searching for a PHP Back-End Developer who is eager to learn, result-driven, and a critical-thinker ready to grow their skills by diving into complexities. The role is part of a growing team that developed the first easy-to-access trading platform for SMEs compliant to European Emissions Allowances (EUAs). The back-end developer will contribute to building features with user impact, help maintain the codebase, collaborate with various stakeholders, and learn about ensuring the scalability and performance of our systems to support business growth. The ideal candidate has a passion for solving technical challenges, and a collaborative mindset to work closely with product managers, front-end developers, and other stakeholders. • Some experience in developing web applications.
• A foundational understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts – experience with PHP is a plus, but we welcome enthusiastic learners familiar with other OOP languages.
• Familiarity with or eagerness to learn frameworks such as Symfony.
• Fluency in English – written & verbal.
• An aptitude for understanding business logic and the drive to learn how to translate it effectively into working code.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team and with different stakeholders.

• Some working experience or strong foundational knowledge of PHP. Familiarity with Linux is beneficial, along with an understanding of or interest in containers and cloud solutions.
• Team player, open to collaboration, and ability to work effectively within distributed teams.
• Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks through to completion and a proactive approach to learning how to solve problems.
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn agile development practices, including tools like Git.
• Contributing to the design, building, and maintenance of APIs, services, and systems that support AFS Energy’s internal teams, with guidance from senior developers.
