Applied Medical is looking for a skilled and driven Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Engineer to help shape the future of automated infrastructure management. This is an exciting opportunity to join a global team and help mature IaC practices within Applied Medical, which are still in their early stages. You will work closely with our European automation team and collaborate frequently with U.S.-based engineers to globalize processes and drive innovation.
Applied Medical’s technical environment is of a hybrid nature with a strong focus on on-premises IT and Operational Technology infrastructure. Within Applied Medical this position has the title Senior Automation Engineer.
Key Responsibilities- Identify opportunities for automation, design architectures, and select IaC tools and technologies to streamline IT and business processes
- Architect, develop, and deliver advanced IaC solutions, reusable modules, and multi-environment lifecycle governance
- Build orchestration workflows, automation runbooks, and enterprise infrastructure pipelines with integrated validation, testing, drift detection, and rollback capabilities
- Integrate automation tools with existing infrastructure and enterprise platforms (ITSM/CMDB, observability, security, SAP) to create a seamless IT environment
- Perform root cause analysis, propose corrective actions, and ensure compliance with Applied Medical’s Quality Systems (QS) and Environmental Management System (EMS)
- Provide technical documentation for post‑implementation handover, define project scope and timelines, and lead initiatives to increase code reuse and reduce technical debt
- Hands‑on experience with IaC tools (Ansible, Terraform) and understanding of modular design and state management
- Ability to develop workflows, playbooks, and runbooks using platforms like Ansible Automation Platform, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
- Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, and Bash, plus experience building and consuming APIs (REST, GraphQL) for automation and system integration
- Skilled in designing CI/CD pipelines with integrated testing, security scanning, and rollback capabilities, and strong knowledge of GitOps principles and version control best practices
- Familiarity with compute, storage, networking, virtualization, cloud technologies, and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) integrated with IaC workflows
- Excellent English communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to a technical and non‑technical audience
