Senior Secondary Engineer

Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for designing cutting-edge substation systems? Our client is seeking a skilled Secondary Design Engineer to join their dynamic team and contribute to critical high‑voltage infrastructure projects.

Our client is looking for a talented Secondary Design Engineer to support the design, engineering, and implementation of secondary systems in high voltage substations. This is a key role requiring close collaboration with primary engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver complex substation projects to high standards.

In this position, you will be responsible for engineering protection, control, automation, and telecommunication systems that ensure the reliability and safety of electrical substations. Your daily tasks will include the preparation of technical documentation such as single‑line diagrams, logic diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams, IO lists, terminal diagrams, control and LV cable lists, and various calculations including battery sizing, AC/DC load, and generator sizing.

You will also play a critical role in equipment specification, selecting relays, meters, control panels, and communication devices. Coordination with multidisciplinary teams will be essential to ensure smooth integration between primary and secondary systems. Site visits and inspections will form part of your responsibilities to ensure adherence to both design intent and international standards.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Minimum 10 years of experience in secondary engineering for high‑voltage substations
• Strong knowledge of protection, control, automation, and telecommunication systems
• Proficiency in electrical design tools such as DIgSILENT, EPLAN, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar
• Experience with ELCAD-AUCOPLAN is a strong plus*
• Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI)
• Experience with IEC 61850 system design and configuration is a plus*
• Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are a significant advantage*
• Strong communication and teamwork skills in an international project setting
• Able to work independently and meet project deadlines
