Researcher Formable Steel

We are looking for a Material Science graduate to strengthen our top class team of researchers!

Tata Steel has the ambition to become a CO2¬ neutral steel producer by 2050. The sustainability transition in steelmaking has a profound effect on our development of the current and future product portfolio. You play a key role in developing the new grades in this portfolio. You will be offered the opportunity to combine your passion for research with tangible process and product implementation in the steel industry.

With your innovative mindset, you will set up experimental and modelling research activities from metallurgical idea to full-scale implementation and product application as part of our portfolio. After an initial period, you will lead R&D New Product Development projects in the area of formable steels, both for automotive and tinplate.
You will work in close cooperation with prominent researchers from various disciplines and in an open, international and academic culture with highly motivated colleagues.

You have an innovative and outgoing mindset and are able to build a network both within Tata Steel as well as with our international industrial and academic partners. You are creative and open to new possibilities while discovering more insights in the product development processes. You feel comfortable to set up research activities and you are able to translate and communicate the results for practical applications .

Furthermore you excel in several of following points:

  • You are recently graduated with an MSc or PhD degree, preferably in materials science
  • You are experienced in a materials science related field, preferably including research experience during your study or during the start of your career
  • You are open minded, willing to challenge existing ideas and drive change
  • You are willing to acquire project leading skills
  • You understand the importance of safety, health, and environment
  • You are a team player with the ability to translate research results into practical applications
  • You have excellent language skills: English and another language and you are willing to learn Dutch
  • Occasional travel is expected.

Wat is jouw werkomgeving?

Within Tata Steel Research & Development (R&D) we work with around 300 colleagues to improve process and product quality for the site IJmuiden in the Netherlands. We offer the possibility for flexible working hours and to work part-time. In the materials design department, The materials design department is some 20 people, the knowledge group is some 10 metallurgists from five countries, working on both modelling and new steel grade development. Our development work is done in close cooperation with our colleagues in research groups in adjacent areas. Moreover, we work in close cooperation with leading research institutes and universities around the world as well as with key customers in the automotive, transport, packaging and construction areas.
