HVAC / Mechanical Building Services | Permanent
£40,000 - £55,000 + package
This is a good role for someone who wants to move into mechanical project management properly, without being thrown into the deep end on a project they are not ready to run.
You will be joining an established HVAC and mechanical services contractor, working across air conditioning, cooling, heating, ventilation, water services and plumbing projects. The business covers design, installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance, so you will get exposure to the full project cycle rather than just one narrow part of the job.
This would suit someone who is already working as a Junior Mechanical Project Manager, Mechanical Project Engineer, HVAC Project Engineer, Mechanical Supervisor, Installations Coordinator or mechanically biased Assistant Project Manager.
You do not need to be the finished article, but at this level you should already understand mechanical services and have some experience helping manage projects, labour, materials, suppliers, drawings, site issues or client communication.
What you’ll be doing
* You will support the delivery of HVAC and mechanical building services projects from order through to completion.
* You will help manage projects across air conditioning, ventilation, heating, plumbing, water services, plant, controls interfaces and associated mechanical systems.
* You will work closely with directors, project managers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, clients and internal office teams.
* You will help organise labour, materials, plant, access, drawings, RAMS, technical submissions, progress updates and handover information.
* You will attend site visits and project meetings, helping track progress, raise issues and keep the project team updated.
* You will deal with suppliers on equipment information, lead times, technical queries and delivery dates.
* You will help review drawings, specifications and schedules, identifying anything that could affect installation, cost or programme.
* You will support procurement, making sure materials and equipment are ordered in line with project requirements.
* You will help manage variations, site records, snagging, commissioning information, O&M manuals and close-out documentation.
* You will learn how to manage client expectations, subcontractor performance, programme, cost and quality across live mechanical projects.
What you’ll need
* You could already be working as a Junior Mechanical Project Manager, Mechanical Project Engineer, HVAC Project Engineer, Mechanical Supervisor, Installations Coordinator or Assistant Project Manager.
* A background in air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, mechanical services, plumbing, heating or building services would be useful.
* You may also be an AC engineer, mechanical engineer or supervisor looking to move into a more office and project-led role.
* You should be comfortable reading drawings, reviewing specifications and understanding how mechanical systems are installed on site.
* You will need good communication skills, attention to detail and the confidence to ask questions when something does not look right.
* You should be organised enough to keep track of labour, materials, supplier information, drawings, dates, site issues and project paperwork.
* Experience with Microsoft Office is expected. AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SharePoint, project management systems or estimating software would be useful, but not essential.
* A mechanical trade background, HVAC apprenticeship, HNC, HND or building services qualification would all be relevant.
* A full UK driving licence would be useful for site visits.
Why this role
This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to grow into a proper Mechanical Project Manager role within a specialist HVAC and mechanical services business.
You will be learning around people who understand design, installation, commissioning and maintenance, which matters. Good Project Managers understand how the work is priced, procured, installed, tested and handed over, not just how to update a programme.
For someone early in their project management career, this gives you a sensible step up, technical support around you and enough variety to develop quickly.
