This is an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Automotive Upholsterer to develop their skills within a specialist environment, learning traditional upholstery techniques and working with authentic materials. You’ll have the opportunity to work on unique historic projects from start to finish, gaining valuable experience from time-served and highly experienced upholsterers.
This role would suit someone who is passionate about upholstery, automotive restoration or furniture and is looking to build a long-term career within a specialist and highly skilled industry.
Trainee Automotive Upholsterer/Furniture Day to Day Duties
* Assist with the restoration and conservation of historic automotive interiors and upholstery.
* Work alongside experienced upholsterers to learn traditional upholstery techniques and methods.
* Assist with projects from initial research and preparation through to completion.
* Work with a variety of traditional and modern upholstery materials and techniques.
* Support the restoration of original upholstery, maintaining authenticity wherever possible.
* Assist with the preparation and manufacture of upholstery for prestigious concours and restoration projects.
* Learn how to research original upholstery techniques, materials and finishes.
* Work as part of a large team of specialist restorers while developing the ability to manage individual projects.
* Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
* Follow company procedures and maintain high standards of quality and attention to detail.
Trainee Automotive Upholsterer/Furniture Requirements
* A genuine interest in automotive upholstery, furniture upholstery or restoration.
* Previous experience in upholstery would be advantageous but is not essential, depending on your level of practical experience.
* An automotive upholstery, furniture or contract furniture background would be highly desirable.
* A willingness to learn traditional upholstery techniques and work with specialist materials.
* Good practical and hand skills with excellent attention to detail.
* A passion for craftsmanship and producing work to a high standard.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also taking responsibility for individual tasks and projects.
* Good communication skills and a proactive approach to learning.
* A genuine interest in historic vehicles, restoration or traditional craftsmanship would be advantageous.
