The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

Deputy Head of Faculty – Construction Trades & Heritage Salary: £42,444 – £44,962 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Contract: Permanent | Full Time (37 hours per week)
Teaching Commitment: Up to 7.5 hours per week, with additional teaching cover as required.

About the Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced educational leader to join a successful further education provider as Deputy Head of Faculty for Construction Trades & Heritage.

Working closely with the Head of Faculty, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the department, helping to deliver an outstanding educational experience for students while driving high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.

This is a varied leadership role that combines curriculum management, quality improvement, staff development and stakeholder engagement. You'll play an important part in shaping the future direction of the faculty while continuing to inspire learners through a reduced teaching commitment.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management

Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the faculty.

Deputise for the Head of Faculty when required.

Lead, motivate and develop lecturers, skills coaches and technicians.

Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching, mentoring and professional support.

Foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture.

Monitor faculty performance and implement improvement initiatives where required.

Teaching & Curriculum Development

Deliver up to 7.5 hours of teaching each week, modelling outstanding teaching practice.

Support the design, planning and continuous improvement of curriculum programmes.

Ensure teaching resources and assessment materials remain current and effective.

Participate in student interviews, enrolment activities and open events.

Promote innovative teaching approaches that enhance learner engagement and achievement.

Quality & Student Success

Drive improvements in teaching quality, learner achievement and progression.

Analyse performance data to identify trends and implement targeted interventions.

Lead and support quality assurance processes, self-assessment activities and inspection preparation.

Encourage excellent attendance, retention and student outcomes across all learner groups.

Employer & Industry Engagement

Build productive relationships with employers, industry partners and professional bodies.

Support the development of apprenticeship and employer-led training programmes.

Work collaboratively across departments to enhance curriculum relevance and employability.

Develop partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for students.

Resource Management

Support the effective management of staffing, budgets and learning resources.

Identify opportunities for external funding and collaborative projects that enhance curriculum delivery.

Student Support & Compliance

Promote an inclusive, learner-centred environment where students can thrive.

Champion equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the faculty.

Ensure safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies are consistently followed.

Support student wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.

Person Specification Essential

Teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd or equivalent).

Degree, professional qualification or substantial vocational experience within Construction Trades, Heritage or a related discipline.

Proven experience teaching within Further Education.

Experience leading, managing or developing teams.

Strong understanding of curriculum planning, quality assurance and learner achievement.

Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills.

GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable

Leadership or Management qualification.

Experience delivering apprenticeship programmes.

Experience managing budgets and resources.

Knowledge of Further Education funding and quality frameworks.

Experience working with employers and external stakeholders.
