Location: Colwick TMD, Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield, Nottingham, NG4 2PE
Salary: £52,000 per annum + overtime
Working Hours: 40 hours per week (4 x 10-hour shifts)
Shift Pattern: Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday, 07:00–17:00
Holiday: 28 days annual leave
About Us
Boden Rail Engineering Ltd is an established diesel locomotive maintenance depot based at Colwick TMD. We specialise in servicing, maintenance, heavy engineering, and full overhauls of Class 37, Class 56, and Class 60 locomotives.
We are now looking to recruit an experienced Locomotive Engineer to join our team, with a strong background in servicing, maintenance, and overhauls—particularly on Class 60 Mirrlees traction systems.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Duties
Carry out locomotive servicing including A, B, and F exams
Perform safety-critical work in line with industry standards
Brake re-blocking and maintenance
Bogie and power unit refurbishments
Fault finding and diagnostics
Load banking operations
Pressure washing of locomotives
Assist with lifting, fitting, and removal of components
Operate overhead cranes safely
Carry out bodywork and structural repairs
Record all work undertaken, including completion of block cards and maintenance documentation
General Depot Duties
Maintain a clean and organised working environment
Support stock and inventory management
Promote and follow health and safety procedures within the depot
Skills & Experience
Proven experience in locomotive servicing, maintenance, and heavy engineering
Experience working on Class 60 (Mirrlees traction) is highly desirable
Knowledge of Class 37 and Class 56 locomotives is advantageous
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Ability to work effectively in a small team
Good communication skills and a proactive, motivated attitude

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (or equivalent)
Full UK driving licence (required for occasional fieldwork)
Willingness to complete PTS (Personal Track Safety) training and medical
Ability to pass a full safety-critical medical, including drug and alcohol testing (random testing applies throughout employment)
Physical Requirements
This role involves:
Climbing locomotive steps
Working in confined spaces
Lifting heavy components
Working in both covered and outdoor environments in all weather conditions
Candidates must be physically capable of carrying out these duties.
