How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Projects Manager – Refurbishment & Heritage works

Location: East Kent / East Sussex
    Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 all-inclusive package DOE
    Job Type: Permanent

PW Construction Recruitment are looking for an experienced Projects Manager / Contracts Manager to join a successful, award-winning, family-run building contractor operating across Kent and Sussex.

Our client specialises in refurbishment, renovation and restoration projects and is looking for an experienced construction professional to take responsibility for between two and four live projects at any one time.

Individual projects will typically range from £300,000 to £2 million in value, and we are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience delivering refurbishment, restoration, cut-and-carve or technically challenging alteration projects.

    The Role

You will have overall responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover.

Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will be responsible for producing and maintaining your own construction programmes, coordinating site teams and subcontractors and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Responsibilities will include managing between two and four concurrent projects, typically valued between £300k and £2m; producing and updating construction programmes; planning labour, subcontractor and material requirements; managing Site Managers and site teams; coordinating subcontractors and specialist trades; monitoring progress against programme; managing procurement schedules; reviewing drawings and specifications; resolving design and buildability issues; liaising with the commercial team regarding costs and variations; chairing progress meetings; and maintaining strong relationships with clients, architects and consultants.

You will also take responsibility for health & safety, quality control, snagging, completion and handover across your projects.

    Candidate Requirements

Applicants should have previous experience working as a Projects Manager, Contracts Manager or experienced Project Manager for a main or principal contractor.

A strong background in refurbishment, restoration and/or cut-and-carve construction is highly desirable, with experience of working on existing buildings, structural alterations and technically challenging projects particularly relevant.

You must be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and capable of working autonomously.

Importantly, you should be confident producing, managing and updating your own construction programmes, rather than relying upon a dedicated planner.

You will need strong subcontractor management, client-facing and organisational skills and the ability to oversee projects from initial mobilisation through to completion.

Candidates will ideally live in East Kent or East Sussex and be comfortable travelling between projects across the region.

    The Company

You will be joining an established, award-winning and family-run contractor with an annual turnover in excess of £5 million.

The company has built a strong reputation within the refurbishment, renovation and restoration market and offers a more personal working environment than a large national contractor, with considerable autonomy and direct access to the company's senior management.

    Package

£55,000 – £65,000 per annum all-inclusive package, dependent upon experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Projects or Contracts Manager who enjoys technically interesting refurbishment and restoration projects and wants to join a successful independent contractor where they can take genuine ownership of their projects.
