How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Build Your Career on One of HS2's Most Important Main Works Civils Sections

Are you a qualified Civil Engineer with experience in design or Design Management who wants to develop your career on one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes?

High Speed Two Ltd is recruiting two Project Engineers to join the client side Integrated Project Team overseeing the EKFB Main Works Civils contract.

Following the HS2 programme reset, the central section of EKFB forms part of the programme's designated Core Test Area. This is where HS2 aims to bring the infrastructure together, commence testing and commissioning, and validate the railway as an integrated system.

This is an opportunity to work on a strategically important section of HS2, providing technical assurance of detailed designs and helping ensure that engineering solutions meet HS2 requirements before and during delivery.

You will work alongside experienced client side engineers, reviewing contractor designs, challenging technical proposals and developing the engineering judgement needed to progress towards Engineering Manager.

    The Project

The £4.2bn+ EKFB Main Works Civils contract is being delivered by Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial and BAM Nuttall. It covers approximately 80km of HS2's largely rural railway through Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.

    The project includes:

    * 15 viaducts, including some of the most innovative structures on the route.

    * 81 bridges carrying roads, rivers, canals and the new railway.

    * 6.9km of green tunnels designed to blend the railway into the landscape.

    * Approximately 30 million cubic metres of excavation, forming one of the UK's largest earthworks programmes.

As the project progresses through detailed design, construction and towards testing, commissioning and handover, you will gain exposure to the engineering assurance and delivery of major infrastructure assets.

    The Role

Working alongside the Engineering Manager, you will form part of the client side engineering team and act as a technical interface between HS2 and EKFB.

The emphasis is on reviewing and assuring detailed designs, assessing technical submissions and ensuring the contractor's proposals comply with HS2 requirements, approved specifications and applicable standards.

You will need sufficient technical depth to interrogate designs, identify potential issues, ask the right questions and work with HS2 Subject Matter Experts to resolve complex engineering matters.

This is particularly suited to someone who has developed a strong technical foundation through civil engineering design or Design Management and now wants to apply that expertise from the client side, gaining broader exposure to construction assurance, technical change and multidisciplinary interfaces.

    What You Will Do

    * Review and provide technical assurance of contractor detailed designs and technical submissions against HS2 requirements, standards and specifications.

    * Identify design gaps, non-compliances and technical risks, working with designers and HS2 specialists to develop appropriate solutions.

    * Act as a technical point of contact between HS2 and EKFB, managing engineering queries and Requests for Information.

    * Support the Engineering Manager in providing risk based assurance across design and construction.

    * Review assurance evidence and support the technical approvals and stage gate process.

    * Undertake targeted site inspections and spot checks to verify that construction reflects approved designs and requirements.

    * Coordinate with HS2 Subject Matter Experts to resolve technical issues and multidisciplinary interfaces.

    * Support technical change, Early Warnings and Compensation Events under the NEC contract.

    * Support NEC Supervisor and CDM Principal Designer Representative responsibilities.

    * Contribute to interface management, testing, commissioning and handover as the section progresses towards operation as part of the Core Test Area.

    About You

We are particularly interested in qualified Civil Engineers from design or Design Management backgrounds who have the technical capability to review and assure detailed designs on major infrastructure projects.

You may currently be working for a design consultancy, a main contractor or another major infrastructure organisation. You should be comfortable interrogating engineering information, assessing compliance with requirements and challenging proposals where necessary.

Experience in rail is beneficial, but major infrastructure design experience in areas such as bridges, viaducts, tunnels, highways or earthworks is also relevant.

The key is your ability to combine sound civil engineering knowledge with technical judgement, effective communication and a collaborative approach to resolving engineering issues.

    Essential Experience

    * Relevant Civil Engineering degree or equivalent professional qualification.

    * Experience in civil engineering design, Design Management or technical design review on major infrastructure projects.

    * Ability to review and technically assess detailed designs, specifications and contractor submissions.

    * Understanding of design assurance, technical compliance and engineering requirements.

    * Experience working with designers, contractors or multidisciplinary project teams.

    * Ability to identify design issues, assess technical risks and coordinate appropriate specialist input.

    * Strong problem solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.

    * Understanding of CDM requirements, with knowledge of NEC contracts beneficial.

    * Interest in developing towards professional registration or chartership.

    Why Join HS2?

You will work directly for High Speed Two Ltd, providing client side engineering assurance on a major infrastructure programme.

The role offers exposure to some of the UK's largest civil engineering structures and the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers while developing your detailed design assurance and project delivery skills.

There is a clear progression route to Engineering Manager, with salaries of up to £92,400 + package.

For a qualified Civil Engineer looking to move beyond design production into client side technical assurance, broaden their experience and develop towards senior engineering responsibility, this is an excellent opportunity to build your career on HS2
