How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Our client is seeking a permanent Electrical Design Engineer to support the delivery of renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects across the UK. The role will focus on electrical engineering and design for battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, wind projects and medium- and high-voltage substations, working closely with project management, engineering and civils teams.

    Key Responsibilities:

Own the development, coordination and delivery of electrical engineering deliverables for EPC and IPC projects.
Produce and check single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, cable schedules, schematics and earthing layouts using AutoCAD and EPLAN.
Prepare design basis documents, calculation reports and technical study reports.
Carry out electrical studies covering cable sizing, load flow, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, relay settings, arc flash and earthing design.
Build and maintain network models using DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ELEK.
Support solar PV layout and energy yield assessments using PVsyst, PVcase and PV*SOL.
Coordinate electrical interfaces with civil, structural, SCADA, controls and mechanical engineering teams.
Review supplier and subcontractor deliverables, resolve technical issues and support projects through construction, testing and commissioning.

    Additional Responsibilities:

Conduct initial and periodic site surveys and witness factory and site acceptance testing.
Provide technical input into tenders, preliminary designs, tender pricing and equipment specifications.
Maintain electrical engineering tasks and project information within Procore or similar document management systems.
Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, including BS 7671, ESQCR, EREC G99, the Grid Code, ENA standards, BS EN, IEC and IEEE requirements.
Complete design risk assessments and hazard analyses.
Support and supervise graduate engineers, including checking their work and contributing to their professional development.
Provide progress reporting and escalate technical or programme issues where required.
Contribute to continuous improvement through the development of design templates, calculation tools and standard procedures.

    Job Requirements:

Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
Experience in electrical engineering design and the delivery of electrical design documentation through review and approval.
Experience working on renewable energy projects, such as BESS, solar PV or wind, and/or MV and HV substations.
Strong understanding of electrical studies, including cable sizing, load flow, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, arc flash and earthing.
Working knowledge of UK electrical standards, regulations and industry best practice.
Experience with relevant engineering software, such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, ELEK, CYMCAP or EPLAN.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with project management, engineering and civils teams.
Excellent analytical, report-writing, organisational and problem-solving abilities.

    Desirable Skills:

Experience using AutoCAD, PVsyst, PVcase or PV*SOL.
Familiarity with Procore or a similar project management platform.
Experience supervising or mentoring graduate engineers.
Membership of the IET and progress towards IEng or CEng registration.

    Benefits:

Permanent opportunity within the growing renewable energy and infrastructure sector.
Career development and professional registration support.
Exposure to high-profile BESS, solar PV, wind and grid infrastructure projects.
Collaborative working environment with opportunities to contribute across the full project lifecycle.
