How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    ProGroup Recruitment is working with a specialist manufacturer to recruit a Technical & Product Development Engineer. This is a varied opportunity combining product development, technical support and practical problem solving, with comprehensive training and a clear development path.

    Working closely with the Technical Director and production team, you will help develop new products, improve existing designs and provide technical guidance to colleagues and customers. You will be involved from initial concepts and drawings through to prototypes, trials and introduction into production.

    This role would suit someone with strong technical aptitude who enjoys understanding how products work and turning ideas into practical, manufacturable solutions.

    The role:

    * Support the development of new products and product configurations, from concept through to production.

    * Produce and review technical drawings, product details and specifications.

    * Get involved in building, installing and trialling prototypes, evaluating materials and components.

    * Investigate technical queries and provide practical advice to internal teams, customers, architects and contractors.

    * Work with production colleagues to improve product performance, quality, cost and ease of manufacture and installation.

    * Review certification documents, test reports and Field of Application reports, supporting the assessment of relevant standards and regulatory changes.

    * Produce and maintain technical manuals, product guides and other supporting literature.

    About you:

    * Strong technical aptitude and a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.

    * Experience using CAD and/or relevant engineering, design or manufacturing software.

    * Ability to interpret technical drawings and develop workable solutions.

    * Strong attention to detail and confident written and verbal communication.

    * Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities and take ownership of tasks.

    * Commercial awareness and an interest in how design decisions affect production, quality and cost.

    Experience in product development, design, engineering or manufacturing would be beneficial, particularly within construction products, doors, joinery or a related industry. An engineering, design or manufacturing qualification, or experience working with technical standards and product certification, would also be advantageous.

    What’s on offer:

    * Salary of £35,000–£45,000, depending on experience.

    * Company bonus scheme.

    * 31 days’ annual leave, including bank holidays, increasing with long service.

    * Comprehensive training and structured on-the-job development.

    * A clear development path within a growing specialist business.

    * Wellbeing programme.

    * Cycle to work and EV salary sacrifice schemes.

    * Free parking and company events.

    * A friendly, collaborative working environment.
